Official Bad Company 2 thread - no beta talk here!

Knifing is too slow in general. Miss once and you're ****ed, providing the guy has a clip loaded.

I have to disagree. If you're knifing someone, you know you're taking a risk. Better than MW2, when people can knife you faster than you can shoot them.

just played a few rounds, was all fine except a few of the servers were doing that thing that often happens around 3/4 am (GMT) where barely anyone is on, but i got into one good server that rotated a bunch of us, eventually ending in a 4 v 4 on port valdez which we won. wtfpwned a apache with a UAV machine gun.

Does anyone else feel the 40mm Shotgun description should be "Point in general direction of enemy for Assist Points."?

i've used it once or twice just for a bit of fun. quite satisfying, nothing too great though. i've started using a shotgun as a medic now because... well, i don't know really, i kind of like the idea of having a non-standard military grunt weapon and only being able to fight if push comes to shove. gives me more room to heal and revive people if i'm not distracted by a fight someplace.

40mm shotgun is brutal. Basically up to like 10 yards it's instantly lethal anywhere in the circle. It does quite a bit more damage than any of the shotguns and may or may not benefit from the magnum perk. I don't use it much yet because I'm trying to platinum 40mm grenade. I'd like to use the shotgun with the AN-94's long and medium range dominance because it's kind of useless past that 10-15 yard mark.

...but it sure as hell beats the pants off the fail knifing unless your target is asleep or sniping (same thing).

My biggest gripe with knifing is that is even if you miss the knife, the animation and the sounds lead you to believe you hit them.

The m60 whoring is as bad as the AWP whoring in Counter Strike.
Add a scope and magnum ammo to it and you got yourself a precision spray and pray insta kill cannon.

The other day, the entire attacking team on Nelson Bay got continuously spawned killed because half of the other team was using that ****ing thing. That shit needs nerfing.

I think people are disregaring the important aspect of reviving while having access to the most effective weapons in the game. An assault has decent weapons, but the best they can do is give people ammo. Healing + Reviving + great power = too much. Squad-o-medics is unstoppable unless you get a lucky grenade.

People say medics being weak against vehicles is their achilles' heel, but several maps have minimal vehicles so it's hardly an effective balance.
Plus, assault aren't much more capable at taking down tanks etc. unless they go for a generic primary weapon.

yea but there really needs to be a middle ground. I hate games where the button begins a script. In this game the knife button doesn't actually knife, it begins the knifing action, and the actual killing happens a second later. I am supposed to BE this soldier I'm playing, the 'build up' is done human-side and the action execution should be instantaneous with the button.

Imagine a racing game where when you press the downs hift button, you don't actually shift down...instead it just begins the animation of shifting, and the gear change occurs 1-2 seconds later. But they don't do that, because everything that's necessary to begin the shift down is done by the human.

and sort of on that same line, there have been times where I've really felt like I was within knifing distance, 1-2 feet away from somebody. But it turns out I was 2.001 feet away and my knife missed, I mean come on, if the game isn't going to let the man stretch a little, then I need some sort of indication that I'm within knifing range.

Yeah I was one of those people who thought that the weakness medics have toward vehicles would be enough, but really the only map with enough vehicles for that to be any sort of factor is Arica Harbor. That's really the only time an engineer shines because (and the RPG-7 becomes useful). I mean yeah you can take a couple engineers and run around in an APC on most maps the whole time being a winner but still, SMGs are crap from the most common engagement ranges.

Engineers aside, Medics are highly effective in most situations because of their lack of weak points. Assaults can't really take out vehicles either without a lucky 40mm grenade hit or something. But they excel at mid to long range accurate fire (or shorter range depending on the weapon).

I think that it's really just the LMGs that need to be toned down in general. They're effective at all ranges and really build on the rarely-reload factor. They say they're working on the m60 and such, but honestly there are 2-3 other LMGs that are almost as effective. Personally I think the MG3 is great just for that "holy shit that's a lot of bullets coming at me" factor... but it's nowhere near the m60 in terms of taking people out.

I hope they do rebalance a few things soon... Adding some AA (despite the fun of hitting a non-tracer helicopter), toning down the M60 and M1911, and maybe slowing down revives by a couple more seconds... or taking away he post-revive invincibility. I never knew that defribillators could do that...

engineers are basically assault but without the ammo box. the SMGs, or the scar, X8 and AKSU (?) are well accurate at range. you can use the scar in short one shot bursts and headshot people across the map with it, or at least i do anyway.

i rarely play assault.

Even with accuracy aside, SMGs lose a lot of power over distance and will take more shots to bring down anyone than say an M-16 or, imo the much beter AN-94. I figure when I put down the 40mm grenade after I get a platinum star and focus on my AN-94 prowess wholly, I don't know if I'll even be so disappointed in the prominence of M60s anymore.

So, what do the stars for weapons do other than give points? What are tags for?

Stars are just points... Gold stars are 5k and if you get 10 you get a platinum star and I Think that's 10k. I'm pretty sure the tags are just so you can make fun of people down the road. "Hey look I stabbed your ass 40 times"

That needs to happen. Medics should be punished for recklessly reviving enemies without checking their surroundings. Right now a just-revived enemy has ample time to get a kill off before dying again. Granted, the medic shouldn't be getting that revive in the first place if people are paying attention, but shit happens man.

And there are different color tags for the different ranks that you've killed. Bronze is low rank, silver is mid and gold is high rank.

post-revive invincibility is so annoying. on more than one occasion i've been trying to bring a medic down only for the previously dead soldier to act as a sheild/sponge covering him, then killing me.

Bad Company 2 has my vote for being the laggiest piece of shit ever. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's ok and then most of the time, it's just unplayable, imo. This game is great, I like it, but I can't deal with the lag, it just makes me cringe. Every other game is fine... but Bad Company 2, aw hell nah.

/sigh

it's not so bad. every now and again there's some lag but then when isn't there in online games? i'll agree that bad company probably has one of the more annoying forms of lag in that it makes you feel incredibly sluggish and slow, but still.

All games have lag here and there, but BC2 just has it way more often, from what I can tell anyways. And like you said, it's that worst kind of lag, where you move forwards a little bit and it makes you take two steps backwards. ARRRRRRGH, I hate that.

and why is it that the Server Broswer shows me a Server with a 15 ping and I end up having a ping of 130 when I join????

One of the devs said it's not ping, in the scoreboard, but latency which focuses more on the distance between the player and the server and has a higher value than ping.

The weird thing is, in the next patch they fixed the overlapping text in the scoreboard and labeled the latency column as "ping", even though whatever it actually is stayed the same. And there's no way it's ping, cause if that was the case then the game would be unplayable, as most of the time everyone has this value in the 150-300 area IIRC.

Just watched a review and couldnt help but laugh at Sweetwater sat in the chopper saying something along the lines of;

''Or they'll send in the p***ies with the heartbeat sensors''.

Regarding the lag, BC had lag at times, just needed ironing out. No game is perfect on release, takes a few weeks or months until EVERYONE is satisfied. Everyone has lag in every game.

Least its not as bad as MW2's release...

I think I'm going to put this game on hold till I get a better computer.

I rarely get lag in this game. If I do its usually around the time they're updating the EA servers or its my internet deciding to die. I usually stick to the same few servers too 'cause I know they play well.

I know what you mean about the annoying lag though. I hate getting stuck in a wall or fence and then rubberbanding back outside in plain view of everyone, only to get shot by a 40mm grenade or something >_<

Loving the game though :D Really enjoying recon atm, almost unlocked the M95, got all of the assualt, medic and vehicle unlocks. Just Engie to go :)

I really don't get why the team balancing hasn't at least been partly patched. I just joined a 32 player server where the attackers had 20 players and the defenders 12. I shouldn't be that hard to give each team a 16 player limit.

I don't get this either. Sometimes there's a small change required and the devs say that it's actually more complicated that it looks etc. If it's such a problem to make a check for the number of players on both teams after a player dies and switch the player if neccessary, then something's wrong with the code.

Well,
A: Its been a few weeks since release already, and
B: It was practically lag free up until a few days after the client patch.

I caught that MW2 reference aswell. It made me chuckle.

There's another one at some point when you're riding ATVs and they mention snow mobile races. I haven't played the singleplayer at all but that's what I saw in a video. There's also that video that made making fun of the video from MW2 about grenade spamming but everyone's seen that.

that knife statistic is incredible. i can't even comprehend that. i mean yeah obviously there's going to be thousands of kills, but above all of the other long range killin' machines save one... sheeeet.

Thought the M95 would be ranked higher, every recon noob loves popping on magnum ammo and just sitting there.

**** any of you who use the recon class as a sniping class, you should get ear cancer.

How the **** is the knife killing statistic that high?

Tried the 40MM shotgun last night. It's actually pretty nice, instant kill at low range, but you miss the building wrecking utility of the grenade launcher pretty often. It's also pretty silly you only have two rounds though and the reload could be slightly shorter as far as I'm concerned.

The M60 and the M1911 definitely need a nerfing.

some of the shotguns behave really badly at close range. as i said earlier i've been playing a defensive medic with a shotgun and the amount of times i've ran into someone and put a slug right into their upper torso only to have him kill me is crazy.

lol @ the M60.

Knife does seem hilariously high, but then again every player has it. Nice to see a good mix between the XM8/M416/M16/AN94 on the assault side of things - if only the medic class was like that. The M60 needs to have some serious recoil and accuracy penalties to justify the damage it deals out, and even then could still probably do with some weakening. The 1911 needs similar treatment.

I don't actually think the toob and the Carl G are quite as bad people make out, but they could still use some changes. I'd lower the kill radius of the 40mm grenade from 2.5 to 1.5 metres (same as a hand grenade), and lower the lethal blast radius of the Gustav from 5 metres down to 4 or 3. The MG3 could use a serious boost as well. It's the last medic unlock and look at it on that chart. I think I can count the number of times I've actually seen it being used online on one hand.

Agreed with all of this. I don't think the toob needs fixing though. Assault needs it to be a strong enough class to make as much of an impact as the others.

True, true. I predominantly play assault so all the whining has got me feeling guilty about using it. I don't think it's a problem with the weapon itself as much as it is an inherent problem with one-hit kill weapons. Really doesn't bother me that much - it's part of the game, but some people just go apeshit when killed by one. But I'd wager most of the time the person firing it actually had the drop on you anyway, and whether you blow up instantly or go down in a hail of lead the end result's still the same.
