Well actually I remember Costas saying that the fireworks DID happen, just there was no way in hell they could get that shot, so he even said on live TV what we were seeing was CGI.
As for the underage girls, well shit we all know there underage but that doesn't get rid of the fact the US Womens Team just ****ing choked.

An American Olympian could stumble around the stage like they were in a drunken stupor and he would enthusiastically comment on their grace and form.

... I already said I watched for about 5 seconds. Well, a little longer than that, but the guy was going absolutely ballistic with enthusiasm, even when one of the girls stumbled near the end of her routine.

It's just an impression I got... from today and from previous days when I tuned in for a couple minutes.

Are you sure? I had watched male gymnast live. It is very clear that Chinese competitors outperformed US'. The difficulty of a move is not merely a count of the number flips or twists. And that the difficulty numbers of different moves were preset by IOC long before the Beijing Games.
