PC Gamer Exclusive Half-Life 2 Review

I have a problem with this issue that is supposed to come out. The december issue coming this week??? How does that happen...anyway, I'll be checking my book store to see if that magazine has come in this week but I will not be surprised if I don't see it.

For some reason the dates on game magazines are always like 2-3 months ahead of of the actual timeline.

With reviews coming out this soon, I find it hard to believe that the game will be delayed much longer. Does anyone know the record time between magazine reviews and game release for other games?

This is a must have for anyone that calls themselves a Half-Life 2 fan. So if you aren’t already a subscriber already (you should be) rush out and get it as soon as it hits store shelves.
No offense, but you sound like a salesman for the magazine, and I hate being 'sold' stuff.

It looks like our "review" will be out at almost the same time as the entire game, so...it's not like we'll be gettign any new medi or information (considering we'll aready have HL2 on out PCs).

I don't think most people on here care about the media. It's the score most are interested in, plus info concerning multiplayer. Most likely we won't have the game on our PCs by the time this magazine reaches us. A good way to tide us over and help keep the faith.

It's the overall text of the review that most concerns me. Anyone can give a poorly rated game a fairly high score unfortunately. As Gamespot proved with Doom III. The review text didn't match the score in my opinion.

I doubt the same will happen with Half-Life 2 as long as the review is written by someone who knows what they're talking about, is unbiased, can write and they're simultaneously in-depth.

Good luck finding that critic :)

Actually I think that some of the game critics today are pretty good. They really do go in-depth well. But it seems that finding unbiased reviews with big titles (D3) with scores that match the text is hard to come by. Hopefully PC Gamer's review of Half-Life 2 shows this.

Just today I was thinking about the abundance of overratings D3 got. It seems as if the game gets an 80% or above tacked on automatically (before other factors are considered) just because it's D3. As if the critics simply cannot give it anything less. I enjoyed the game btw, but yeah, overrated across the board (quite surprised Gamespot's score was so lenient). I really do hope Half-Life 2 reviews don't suffer from the same trend. Then again, I think most of us are comforted by the fact that the praise will be justified this time.

Damn they should've made it '12 things you need to know to ruin Half-Life 2'

12. 'impulse 101'
11. 'god' :p

FIRST:that magazine will get here in my country in like 4 months

SECOND: for the copyrights stuff the review cant be posted here (also that icarus say "I cant say")and even the scans, and we will not know everithyng of that review

THIRD:I dont live in USA if you didnt notice and I cant buy a magazine that is not in sale in my country

EDIT:also if that mg get here I will not hav money to buy it

"pessimisn" get it?

EDIT:also if that mg get here I will not hav money to buy it

From the bits and pieces around I have seen that the reviewers (at least one) seems to have actually gone into Valve and played the final copy. As opposed to receiving a copy. Do you think this is a good method to review a game?

Ownage

i'm damn sure hl2'll get a better score than d3. gamers here in singapore are absolutely stoked about hl2. i musta watched the e3 demo 50 over times. its great that pc gamer's getting these ridiculously exclusive scoops on the latest games. all hail hl2

For the 1st two you listed: The reveiw text as far as I am aware can be posted, except you can't post any scans from the review. Or people could give summaries etc. There is not just a total blackout on all this. Plus I'm sure you could find it if you really wanted to by searching the rest of the internet :D
For the 3rd:how am I supposed to know this? I'm not an encyclopedia. How am I supposed to know that PCGamer is not for sale in your country? You can import. But if you don't want to then like I said before I'm sure that you will be able to read the review online shortly after the magazine gets to subscribers :D

""pessimisn" get it?" No, cause thats not a word. But hey, PESSIMISM is... and yes, I absolutely get that!...

Nice try at a slam though...

Why would the December issue be out in september/october?
i know sweden and usa is in different time zones.. but 2 freggin months? wtf.

hopely.. when that december issue arrived at the stores in Norway, ill be playing HL2 instead, and i wouldnt care anymore about some more Hl2 info shit...

The December 2004 issue of PCGamer(US)

This is a must have for anyone that calls themselves a Half-Life 2 fan.

So what you are essentially saying is that only Americans are HL2 fans? Or people who don't read some review of a game that's going to get released soon aren't fans? Or what?

in germany'S biggest PC-mag no game ever got more than 92% (i think)
so i think this mag will give hl2 90-95%

YAY! The cover is awesome. The simple layout gives the whole mag this air of "Ok guys! This is serious! This is ****ing it! Suck it down! 'nuff said!"

pffft. pcgamer got keyz, newb!

WOWOW WE LOVE HL2 THEY GAVE US THE FIRST REVIEW SO EVEN IF IT MAKES YOU WANT TO CUT OFF YOUR PENIS AND CHOKE YOURSELF TO DEATH WITH IT WE'LL GIVE IT %97 OR SOMETHING RETARDED LIKE THAT

RAR, thats my predication.

Lets see what EDGE say :p

;( ;( ;( I wann it mummy
Honestly, first i was all "I'm not gonna read a review until after i've played hl2"
and now i'm all "I am going to read this review cover to cover"

what concerns me most about this news is the "12 things" about our PCs...dammit

Hi Julian,

We were careful to keep the review spoiler free. It's about how the game
makes us feel, rather than about what you will see in the game. And yes,
it's positive.

Cheers,
Mark

So HL2 definitely owns.

he could be teary-eyed because it sucked...
but no bullshit, of course it owns

I hope than someone will scan the mag for us (all the HL² fanboys who can't buy PC Gamer in their country ...)

Scans arent allowed. Although I imagine you will find them online shortly after the magazine comes in to subscribers.

There's nothing unusual about HL2's sys requirements.

Nice, i hope we can see the full review scanned somewhere :p

hope it to. theres no chance for me getting it somewhere here in germany :/

Subscribers are said to be getting it early this week, and considering we're already on Tuesday...

I'd expect something imminent over the next 24/48 hours, just in time for September 30th...
