Post your latest music tracks/WIP's and comment!

I'm sure it's not the part you primarily expect commenting on. But I always love your pads, neptune. Any way, you've once again done a damn good mix of physical instruments with all the electronic elements. I know it's CnC-related, but it reminded me a lot of Mechwarrior 2.

Little output from my corner for some time, obviously. I've started dozens of tracks that I don't get back around to finishing, but I took another whirl at a track I made some months ago and gave up on for a bit. After a while it started turning into its own thing, so I figure I'll spin my recent work on it into a different track altogether. I particularly like one section with heavy use of a Combi patch I made, and I've pretty much been listening to it repeatedly on my MP3 player, so I figure I might as well put it here.

Tracked some more guitars today and I'm pretty happy with the sound. This is a short clip from a nearly 9 minute song but I think it's a pretty cool part.

http://www.soundclick.com/util/downloadSong.cfm?ID=5698238&key=2FED35BE-9

This clip is missing bass and keyboard (and obviously vocals), so it sounds a little hollow, but I think it's sounding pretty good so far. I think it's going to come together really well with the bass.

It's pretty good, but the guitars are a little sloppy and pretty poorly recorded. I do like the song, though.

I just downloaded nskit_free, and I have to say I absolutely love the quality of the drum sounds. They sound about a million times better than the ones I was working with before, and that's not and overstatement. Just for proof, I redid the drums to this song, along with the guitars:

Meanwhile, here's the original for comparison:

I'm pretty impressed, anyway. Not exactly as good as real drums, but I'm definitely very happy with them for now. I'm not entirely sure if the two versions sound exactly the same, because I never wrote the song down and had to go by ear, but... well, close enough.

Your new mix definitely sounds better, but I actually thought the old drums sounded a little bit more balanced. Do you individually process each drum track or do you bounce them all to one mix? If you individually process them, I would recommend turning the hi-hat/overheads down a bit (or the snare up), and giving the snare a boost at around 5 khz to give it a bit more snap, and perhaps a small boost around 200 hz to give it a little more power. I would also recommend giving the kick drum a rather large, fine boost at around 2.5-3 khz to give the beater a lot more 'snap' and have it cut through the mix, as you'll definitely need it for metal.

Let's see what you guys/girls can do with this one.

MP3

Edit: And for the love of Munro please someone make this a sticky.

Says it contains a bad file format and won't load in Reason.

Sounds like something that could have come from Incunabala-era Autechre, maybe slightly into Amber.

A reworking of a previous track I did. A lot of older elements were severely altered out of existence, and the only thing it really has in common with the previous track is the amen breakdown. Pads at the end reminded me of the intro train ride in HL when I was working on them. Vast, reverbed pads with distant, unharmonic waves floating among the notes.

Max volume output is really gimped due to clipping and it stayed gimped no matter how much mixing editing or EQ tweaking I invested in it. Go figure.

here's something some people are quite proud of, I improvised these on the electric guitar, the first one's consistent of two tracks, recorded into the computer, while in the intro there's a third track briefly runnin for 20 seconds, being a reversed guitar sound:

the second one one was improvised live, so spare me
:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqi00BiwlaI

Dunno, the last one's a bit unstructured, well, but I really, really like the first one, there's nothing I could think of that I could improve.

I'll try to pump out something by tonight, although I am heading out later. If not by then, then tomorrow for sure.

ADDED: Hmmm... Got something I really like. Will post before the day is over.

"MA15 (Schiff Mix)" by Distisec

Kept largely within the minimalist style of the original. Sounds more like something you can dance to as opposed to a clicky machine. I may fool around with another remix if any ideas pop into my head. Also, woo mardigras. Kinda cheap, but I just liked the original groove so much.

I would recommend turning the hi-hat/overheads down a bit (or the snare up)

I think you'd benefit if you turned the snare up a little bit and the hi-hat down a little bit.
And perhaps try giving the Kick Drum some reasonance if you can? Not a lot, just a little more to make it seem like a more real Kick Drum

sea: ocean is pretty ****ing nice! would like some development pretty early, its good as an atmosphere track but doesnt quite grab your attention. very relaxing later on though. like the odd thing you got going in the high end. post rock yo!

w4d5y: spheric guitar is pretty kicking. could deffo use better audio quality. very old school atmospheric.
second one is way better than you advertised it as. lovely atmosphere, brilliant really. love the solo work. you could release shit like this, I'm serious. like the guy said on your youtube page, brilliant stoner music :) :) :)

what guitar do you have by the way? **** I think I'll get that rc-2 when I get a hold of a decent electric, I would die a happy man. Any tips for getting the fingers tight for soloing like that? by the way you should upload it as an mp3, would love to put it on my mp3 player.

absinthe: germermx2, classic chord progression haha. very nice reverb tricks, liking the old school idm vibe. abit too long, doesnt develop much. nice pad work at the end.

Hey guys, anyone mind having a listen to a any one of my new tracks? Ill check yours out, too.

First off I have a dark industrial track, I think it may be one of my best pieces of work in terms of atmosphere. It's called 'Scorched Ground' what do you think?

At least listen up to the 'guitar' solo thing at 1:55

Now I have made a main menu theme for a zombie source mod (epidemic), and come up with this:
'Epidemic'

or

Not entirely sure what genre to classify this as, any ideas? I know I need to add a bassline at some point.

Aaaand.. just because everyone seems to be liking electric guitars a simple electro rock track! (C&C inspired)
CnC Rockin'

Thanks in advance for listening! (if anyone does >_>)

uh sorry for the music spam... ive had a creative day. (Done all these today)

I really like Epidemic :D

Not into the CnC music as much, although CnC Rockin was alright.

All this in one day? That's pretty good. I can never finish anything in one day, but I always end up starting dozens of things D: Meh, I still r noob.

I'm definitely the same way. I have about 15 .rsn files sitting there consisting of little clips of a track. My usual process goes like: start new project, make drums, try to do something with the melody, get depressed, save/quit.

You have a MIDI board? If you're really stuck, I used to find the easiest way to tap into a melody immediately was by just playing the sharp keys. After that you could edit however much you want. Wouldn't rely on it too much though, because then your tracks start to sound samey.

Or, y'know, say "**** it" to melody entirely and just flex your ph4t drum skillz with a lot of DSP shit.

I thought I made it obvious enough by posting that I was going to get one/got one, like, 5 times in this thread. And yeah, I like messing around with the drum samples, see what I can some up with.

It's kind of entertaining how you'll be working on thing, but then randomly bump into something you really like and decide to go into a whole different direction. When I was making this latest thing, I was aiming for a light hearted guitar sounding track. I hooked onto something I really liked and went in the opposite direction. It's teaching me not to go into Reason with a real set objective and to mess around with things to see what happens.

Just finished up something I've been working on for awhile. I think it turned out pretty well. I really liked the melody nice and simple, so I chose to stick with it. Anyway, here it is. Comments and criticisms welcome!

"Pipeline" by Qonfused

Pretty awesome! Little too much bass in the drums though. Might just be my speakers.

I actually agree with your drumline having too much bass, though on my bass-less speakers it sounds cool. Very nice though, as I already said :3

Extremist

One of my latest songs, experimenting with better mixing techniques. Don't really like the "feel" of this one though.

Also this one:
Prayer
Quite inspired by NIN, I liked the melody on this one.

They are, in fact, sampled.

Yes, the clipping on the guitars is driving me insane. I just got a preamp to boost the signal on my guitars, and I'm still adjusting to their increased volume.

Well I've been working on a cover of NIN's Ruiner lately, here it is so far. Make sure to listen to it through headphones, and cranked.

http://media.putfile.com/Ruiner-NIN-Cover-Kouler (thanks Qonfused for uploading)

I only rendered the first half because I have yet to record the guitar and vocals, but when it is all done, I'll share it with you all. Any thoughts?

Got some more tracks finished, but I'm only uploading one for the time being, because I've decided the other one needs some more tweaking. I've finished off Told Part 2, though, which I'm pretty pleased with. It sounds pretty epic on my parents Bose stereo, but, probably, not as good on your speakers, so sorry about that. Comments welcome! http://www.audiostreet.net/ka

everyone knows djing isnt real music :p but i love good mixes, shoot!

^ I've been high as a kite all day and that might have something to do with it but I had a ton of fun just singing along to that, Zeus :D

Thanks..I tried to add vocals to it, but I can't sing for crap so I deleted them. lol
