Post your latest music tracks/WIP's and comment!

Could I have a go at the .rsn file? I need something to do.

Ah, well that was what I meant. But I'll take the file any way. :)

I've been going back to my first Reason 4 track, "Here We Go". Just taking some of the templates and running in different directions. Here's one of them.

"Over RDU" by Anasynth

Nice one. The fast pace and rhythm reminded me of Inkeys.

I was just browsing through my loops and just figured "Why the **** not?".

I can't believe I've never really tried to use the Dr REX device before...I've been trying to do everything with redrum D:
I don't know why I never played with rex loops more often, it's way more fun.

Anyway here's something I made using the "whole thing" patch and a messed up sax thing. It's over with pretty quickly...I should stretch it out more but meh.

In relation to the drugs thread, I made two tracks last night and did lots of weed.

http://neptune.dmusic.com/

The top two tracks you can stream there ^

"Fire at will" the first track, industrial metal

"Bridge to Horizon" This was when I was most high, its a chillout-ey style track.

Anyone care for a quick listen? Ill check some of your guys stuff out above me in a bit, I actually listened to a load of the tracks above last night but was too stoned to type coherent shit. :p

Digging accretion disk.

naudian the sax thing doesnt seem to go anywhere, the dissonant lines seem to move all over the place without any direction.

I like Stentorian, nice and relaxing.

Say I'd like to have a stab at making some music, where'd you recommend I start? What tools do you use, where do you get your material from?

reason or learn an instrument, play around, read up, play around some more

Not bad, I like Bridge to horizon the most, it's...calming. Duty Paid is interesting too.

Yea I was probably focusing more on playing with the drums :p Maybe I'll re-do it sometime because it does start out kinda neat I think.

Here's another I just made:

I think it's probably one of my best efforts so far, but every time I listen to it I hear something I don't like. Right now the lead synth thing is bothering me :( What do you guys think?

Drums are solid. You're right about the synth; doesn't seem to fit with the rest. I liked the reverbed pads at the end. Try making the lead more like them, or at least try some more DSPery for it.

Aye, I thought the drums are really nice for being on a drum machine, and the beat was pretty original? from all the stuff I've heard.

Well the two main drum lines were a default layout and I just copied them to the track, adding/changing some stuff afterwards. I did draw out a bunch of patterns myself, but the main two you hear in the beginning were mostly the default loops. They do sound good together though :D

Thanks!

I use, as do most of us here, Reason. You could go that route (don't think you can only make electronic music in Reason, there are tons of samples for everything) or learn a "real" instrument. Either way, man, just experiment with whatever. You'll suck horribly at first, but it'll come.

Naudian, I really like the last track you posted. I'm loving the drums, and the lead synth isn't bad; I guess I'm the only one that really doesn't have a problem with it.

I'm assuming that this is another track for that mod again. It's great.

Neptune, I really liked "Bridge To Horizon". Very nice indeed. I'd love to hear more of this stuff from you in the future. Only thing I'd change is that cymbal crash hit, but maybe that's only because I recognize it so much from browsing through Reason's factory bank. :) "Got Rhythm" is also pretty funky. You make good use of the instrument samples.

I'm trying to listen through all the tracks posted, but the ones on putfile are loading extremely slow for me, so I might just have to go back to them some other time.

"BRAiN BOX" by Distisec

Pretty noisy, and definitely on the more "weird" side of my output.

Yeah, the lead synth is definitely out of place. That could maybe pass for some Melodies From mars stuff, but I personally think you should continue in the more ambient vein.

Otherwise, pretty cool. You have a good grasp of rhythm. Better than me.

Double post, but, **** it, I'm bumping.

Something I've been working on for a bit:

Solitary by Qonfucius

Pretty much the same deal here. Your later instruments don't really fit what you start out with. The drums could also use more kick both in the sound and the beat. Keep going with it and you could make something really good.

"80's Shirt" by Anasynth

Name says it all, really. I find it kinda fun, but you may find it pretty uninspired.

Absinthe - 80s shirt starts off with an epic mysterious feel to it. However, as it progresses, you're using too much of the same rhythm and random chords and then go back to the beginning (which, to me, is the best part).

You did employ your samples awesomely. I find it quite enjoyable to try to listen to every one individually and then hear the whole thing together to see how the final mixdown sounds, and it's a very nice blend.

You've got the creativity; my opinion/suggestion would be either to shorten the song and eliminate the chord/scale progressions you like the least, or twist the rhythm (specifically the drum/bass combination) a bit so that the song isn't the same beat throughout the whole song.

7/10

It's definitely something I'm gonna have to go back to for the reasons you mentioned, if not an entire do-over. At the time I just wanted something to loop out to after getting kinda worn out by the previous one.

"LPAP" by Distisec

Started strong, then I felt like I was spinning my wheels. So whatever.

EDIT: Up now.
It does feel like it drags on. To me it sounded like it might have been building up to a kinetic breakbeat-esque crescendo, maybe you could try going in that direction?

Anywho, here's a track I'm working on now that I've finally gotten the hang of Reason a bit:

http://media.putfile.com/Music-for-Airports-spinoff

No title yet. It's a spin-off of "Music for Airports" by Naudian, and I don't quite know where I should go with it. Just as well I suppose, because it's about time I got some sleep for the night. Comments are very appreciated, this is only the second thing I've ever written that I've had any sort of success with.

O lawd

Here's the other one if anyone's interested.

I started it a long time ago and just recently began messing with it trying to make something else...just a messy WIP right now.
I didn't know what to call it so I just went with the name of the patch.

I like yours stig, we should send the rns back and forth adding a bit at a time and see what happens :E

Starts relaxing and gets creepy @ 00:40. Perfect for the beginning of a movie (opening credits, highway scenes, sunrise). I kind of like 2:00-3:00 but it's a bit too weird for my tastes during these moments.

Just my first impressions.

:D

Two new tracks:

Sorry PutFile hates my uni network connection.... and wikiupload is dangerous to use these days.
Id request someone to upload the tracks on my behald but no one is going to listen to them anyway lol. Dmusic it is.

'Sludge' Heavy track, still a WIP. Genre(?) : Industrial/Grunge/Hard Rock/Sludge Metal/Stoner ????

'Quitting is For Losers' Experimental rock WIP, Industrial/Electro/Rock ??

You can stream both tracks here : http://neptune.dmusic.com/

If anyone listens to either I'll appreciate it a lot, I'm looking for feedback as the tracks havent been finalised yet.

Sad, so sad

Unfinished and rudimentary, but nice and melancholic sounding. First song made in Reason, \o/.

I'll tell you what it reminds me of, music from one of those Might & Magic or Heroes of Might & Magic games from the early to mid 90s.

Listening brought back a little nostalgia. :)

Sludge: What I didn't like about this track is that the drumming gets too repetitive. Perhaps it'd sound better if the drums were real rather than samples, but what I think would improve the rhythmic part of this track is for you to try adding some variation to the beat. Do you listen to Porcupine Tree? Perhaps you'd like the drummer's style in that band. Listen to the songs "Anesthetize" and "Mellotron Sratch" - the drumming varies and flows along perfectly.

What I liked was the fact that it was badass. The guitar reminded me of Pink Floyd, for a reason. I don't listen to this kind of rock much at all so +1 for making me like a genre I don't really listen to.

Quitting is for losers: Same thing with the drumming - too samey, needs more variation (however subtle it may be).

I really liked about halfway to this song when a very subtle melody slowly builds up towards the end. Awesome stuff.

I really liked this. I also liked Stig's too. Kind of inspired me to mess around with some piano shit.

This is really cool, some great tracks so far guys. What software does one use to make this stuff?

Do you guys synthesize the sounds, or do you all really know what many instruments? D :
