That would require releasing the engine client DLL, which would be alot more hazardous in the hands of the warez community than the dorment art resources.

Unless they used the CSS dll which would again be like releasing the beta to everybody, or making a Benchmark specific DLL which would take lots of time which they clearly dont have.

nice try, but its still possible. so HaH HaH

No, he is right. It is 1am GMT. However it is 2pm BST, which is British Summer Time.

GMT is one hour behind BST.

True, but we are both wrong, because valve are now on PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) which means the preload will still be 2am GMT.

... i dont get it.

you are making a lot of assumptions in your post, which is why i don't buy it. i think its still possible.

what are the chances they move this back a few more days and release some binks tonight?
ha.

anyway, this is good news......

There'll be a portion of it tonight, then there's likely to be a second pre-load once the game goes gold with the rest of the content.

If you're buying on Steam you will have the full game on your system before it's release so it can be unlocked and played as soon as it's available.

I wonder if preloading it will allow you to skip the installation process if you buy it through retail. Maybe entering the CD key will simply unlock the preloaded material and you won't have to install?

I think Gabe is wrong, because he means PDT ^^

The steam website thinks PST is PDT ^^

Well at least I hope Gabe is wrong because 3am sucks for us English people..

I would hate to see the stacks of hate mail they would get if they did do that.

Fair enough, however both the preload of CZ and CSS included every file except for the DLL's, because they are the core of engine and (combined with an exe) allows you to run it, these were downloaded on the activation dates, but anyway we will see in 1 hour and 13 minutes (by my watch anyway).

I got a couple of questions about this preload.

1. If one were to preload HL2, what all would he/she be downloading? Art, models and stuff like that?

2. In a percentage, how much of the game will be already downloaded?

3. Besides a positive sign that HL2 is actually coming, what's the big deal with the preload?

4. How reliable is Steam? I'm thinking of buying HL2 over Steam, but I want a CD for backup purposes.

Sorry for sounding like a n00b and a smart @$$ but I just wanted to ask you guys on the HL2.net forums. Thanks. :rolling:

1. Exactly. Any medium they are finished with, and won't be updating.

2. We have no idea. :)

3. Nothing... it's just a sign that it's making progress.

 :farmer:

I just hope theres something in there i can take a look at/mess about with

why are we happy, we should be mad?
he didnt even give a raison for 2 DAY DELAY!

I for one am going to explode in a furious rage of hate.

1. All we know is it will contain content that will not change between now and release.

2. We have no idea untill it starts tonight

3. It makes a pretty HL2 icon appear in steam.

Edit: 4. I personaly have had no problem with steam, its about as safe as buying a game off any website, others may disagree, but thats imo.

Please try to understand what is going on... :)

Gabe is NOT in PST now, he is in PDT, however I'm still not saying he doesn't know what time-zone he is in. How many people take into account daylight saving time when they talk about their time-zone? Not many.

What seems more likely, that he is talking about the time-zone Valve is in (PDT), or he he just randomly decided to talk about the release in terms of a time-zone he isn't in?

He just means 6pm where Valve are, which is 6pm PDT. It's not a question of confusion, it's a question of not being anal ;)

wtf man come on.... 2 days to fix things is that so bad? nooo you gotta be all like "omgz i don't care if i get 10kb/s on the download just release it!!" I mean come on 2 days ain't that bad.... And it's still coming so chill... Why be mad if something good is coming.... that's like being mad at a football team because they lost one game and are going to the superbowl. See it doesn't make sense.

Woot can't wait tho :bounce:

This is great news, but I'd still like to know what caused the preload delays. I'm curious :E

PLEASE no more talk about time difference its about as insteresting as watching paint dry

On both delays a CS:S update was released, so I blame that. it's more important to fix bugs than preload HL2 after all.

LMAO

Alot of gamers in the world going to start preloading like it in the first minute when HL2 preload is active and in the end not even purchasing in on Steam but just buying the game in store. <-- talking about wasting bandwidth!

Seriously what is this hype about?

What is the purpose between preloading it in the first minute (and most of us not even purchasing it in the end) or waiting a few weeks and preloading 1 or 2 days before the worldwide release date...? there is none! :imu: :bonce:

so we WILL see the game in the middle of september that is awsome News, there is no reason why it shouldnt get released in sept

If you wish to have ur HL2 ready for updates u will need it to be working with steam, Taking CZ as an example steam does not copy over the existing install, and instead redownloads everything, which takes a while, it would be neater and easier to simply plant ur CD key in steam and go from there, and preloading now will save u time later.

How long between the preload was it until they unlocked CS:S? Maybe we're looking at a similar time frame! I can always hope.....

Eek, I certainly hope the preload data is encrypted or else the mods here are gonna have their work cut out for them :).

I can't wait for HL2 to release. I've been waiting for this and Doom 3 to be released for years. Doom 3 was a good game, but really only for one time play through. You already know what's going to happen your second time through the game. Half Life 2 looks like an amazing single player game with lots of action. Can't wait to see what fun stuff you can do with the gravity gun . . . . lol.

HURRY UP AND PUT IT IN STORES!!!

I'm sure this forum will erupt with the arrival B-MAn. You'll know... trust me. :)

I can't wait!

To see a progress bar...

But still, HL2 is arriving on my PC!!!

hmm. I have a feeling it will preload tomorrow morning. Just a feeling.

what does this mean exactly?
people that are buying through steam can starting downloading??
someone please clarify, thanks :bounce:

This is it guys... The 2nd most important day of our lives... Well... maybe not everybody... Not even me...
