Dr. Strangelove - 9/10 - First time I've seen this in a long, LONG time.
Watched this for the first time ever today

9.5/10

Damn, after all these years it's still a damn fine film. Peter Sellers absolutely amazed me. I haven't seen him in anything else but this and The Pink Panther, but this got me interested in finding more of him. So, chalk up another excellent film to Kubrick.

Casino Royal - 9/10

Finally. After everyone telling me it's so brilliant I've finally taken it in. Loved it. Cheered at the end.

The Great Raid - 7/10
Pretty typical war movie, but not a bad one at that. It focuses on the Phillipines in WWII, on one operation by a company of inexperienced rangers to rescue some PoWs from a Japanese internment camp, and goes into the Jap occupation of Manila and the underground movement there. Plot-wise it stays fairly interesting, it shifts around to show several parties at different times and links them together pretty well. However, the first hour or so is pretty slow going, and for me atleast it seemed to drag on alot and failed to build much tension. The battle scenes in the second half are pretty excellent, though nothing as grand as Saving Private Ryan as it was a fairly small operation (nor as gritty as there were minimal casualties). The acting is good, but the characters are mostly forgettable. It's shot fairly well, but the soundtrack is standard issue war movie stuff. I didn't notice it most of the time but it adds a cheesy overtone in a few parts.

All in all not a bad choice if you're looking for a decent WWII flick that focuses on something besides the fighting in Europe (although it's still all Americans :)).

Little Miss Sunshine- 8/10

Interesting movie. A tad bit annoying how everything just "happens" to fall into place so comically "perfect", and some parts seemed like they were trying to make appear indyish, but it's an absurdly weird and entertaining flick.

Gummo 8/10

Incredibly strange and nihilistic. Only real way I can describe it.

Thought it said Gumby.

Diamonds are forever- 7/10. This is one of my favorite Bond movies, though some of the acting is pretty meh.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels 8/10

Not as good as Snatch, but a great movie nontheless.

The Wire Season 1: 8.5/10

Brilliant Television show that everyone should watch, or at least buy the dvd of (not on tv in Australia, so i bought the dvd on a whim). Lots of politics for a cop show, but thats what makes it so good. Also, the drug-running and Omar are awesome.

The Wire Season 2 9/10

While i liked the characters from the first season better, this just comes together better at the end. Again, awesome awesome tv show if you can get your hands on it.

I have to agree, except i would give the all three seasons I've seen 9.5/10

Bar far the most realistic fictional show ive ever seen, it totally proves that the gritty day to day lives of real police/criminals is much more interesting then the over the top theatrics of CSI.

PS: You'll probably like the third season more then the first two.

Dawn of the Dead (original) 9/10
My single gripe with this film is the sound effects and music, otherwise this is fantastic.

I've heard the fourth season is the best one so far, but i still need to see the third, and that won't come out in Australia for quite a while :(.

With that said: Everyone should watch The Wire.

Rocky Balboa - 6/10

The acting was poor, the script was poor (save for a few good quotes) but I guess it was worth watching. The ending was SUCH an anticlimax though... I could think of 200 better ways to end this film. :/

Little Miss Sunshine - 8.5/10

Interesting film. The only actor in it I didn;t like so much was Toni Colette. Everyone else really fit the role and pulled it off with gusto. It wasn't really laugh out loud funny for most of it, but I liked it. My main problem is that it felt a bit uneven in tone, which happened throughout the movie. Besides that, well done.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning - 6/10 - ****ing brutal.

Children of Men- Holy holy holy crap. This movie is beyond amazing. Every second of it is perfect. I'm seeing it at least one more time this weekend, it's that good.

Rocky Balboa - 8.5/10

This was just the right tone. It was nice seeing all the familiar characters again. A nice send off to the Rocky franchise. Definitely not a perfect movie, but a damn fine Rocky movie.

Children of Men 9/10

GREAT movie, very intense.

Children of Men - 9/10

An amazing work. Pitch perfect atmosphere. Wonderful acting, especially on the parts of Clive Owen and Michael Caine. And that long, incredible single shot is pure art. The only real problems are a few story holes and illogical choices. Still, Clive Owen can play reluctant hero anytime he wants and Cuaron has certainly found a new fan.

I just wish the release on this was wider, it should be seen by all.

I'd like to revise my original score and say 9.5

After watching it again tonight, for the third time, it still holds up incredibly well. One of my friends said it felt unlike any movie he had seen in 6 months. He said it felt real, which is the highest compliment I think this movie could ever recieve.

And it does feel real. It feels like a possible future. And it feels so utterly non-American, not anti-American. Not merely because of the American policies tackled by the film, but after watching it with a typical audience they seemed to misunderstand it.

It was such a hybrid that no one in the audience seemed to know how to react, so they reacted like they would to various genre films. There were loud guffaws when a quiet chuckle was more appropriate. There were screams and outbursts during certain action parts when a quiet awe or possibly a gasp would have suited the moment much better. So, it finally makes sense to me why the rest of the world got the film first. This isn't one of the easy films most Americans are used to. It'll be interesting to see how it fares at the box office. I'm kind of sad it has to be sold as an action flick to get Americans to go see it.

Anyway, damn fine film. I look forward to many more viewings.

I understand what you mean. It wasn't a laugh-out-loud comedy, if a comedy. It was just... interesting. It kept you watching honestly wondering where the movie went next.

Deja vu - 8.5/10.

I really enjoyed it. Cool plot and visually great. I guess people may moan that it involved time travel which is either impossible and/or leaves plot holes etc. etc., tossing wiki entries on time travel at you, but I call it a movie worth watching.

The Sixth Sense - 9/10. Rewatched it last night on TV. M. Night Shyamalan has some real potential as a director, stop releasing crap such as Village and Lady in the Water!

The Piano - 8/10

It's cool that she actually knew how to play the piano. It makes it that much more believable and worthwhile.

Stephen Kings The Stand 8/10 The story gets a 10/10, the acting gets a 5/10, but since Gary Sinise is in it...I'll up it a bit. Average of 8/10

Requiem for a Dream 9/10

Unnerving and gritty. I love the editing.

The New World - 5/10...

Great beginning, started to drag alot towards the end....

Crank - 8.5/10...
Holy shit.

The Descent 9/10 nice, really nice adventurous horror surviving film especially who likes to watch gore and blood?

Snakes on a Plane DVD - 8.5/10...

Aweshens.
Great special features, they include a few of the fan made trailers and stuff.
Great making ofs, haven't had a chance to look at the commentary.

My only gripe is the 800 ****ing previews they have before the movie actually starts.
Even worse, they're all shitty movie previews.

Blood Diamond

10/10. Gets a high score from me as im half South African, have lived in Zimbabwe and have been to these places featured in the film, so know first hand what the film is about. Really powerful, emotional and good action scenes that wouldnt be wrong in Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan (camera work and explosion effects).

Is snakes on a plane fun to watch alone, none of my loser friends want to see it.

It's a blast no matter what.

Although I watched it with a couple of my buddies and some booze.

The Illusionist - 7/10

A decent period magic film. I didn't like it quite as much as The Prestige, though. Edward Norton and Paul Giammati were very good, but that was about it. The story felt typical and easy to see though, which was a bit of a let down. And I'm getting really tired of movies explaining everything to me at the end like I'm a moron. Let me figure it out on my own for christ's sake, that's half the fun.

A Scanner Darkly - 7.9/10...

Interesting movie, really liked the visual style.
But it sort of dragged on towards the end...

The Ant Bully - 7/10 - Better than I expected. Enjoyed it :)

Apocalypto 8/10

Excellent film, really one of the best this year.

Children of Men 7/10

LOL I APPARENTLY DONT UNDERSTAND THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVENT SEEN THIS YET SO ENNUI HAD TO EDIT IT TO SAVE EVERYONE ELSE FROM GETTING A HUGE SPOILER TO HELP RUIN THE ****ING MOVIE FOR THEM <3

The Illusionist 5/10

Good movie, except the ending - Usual Suspects ripoff which was extremely disappointing.
