In the red corner we have a stalin wanna-be and in the blue corner we have captain trigger-happy and the oil brigade!

At least there is an old cold war bunker near me.

Well, i hope/thought there is one nearby.

I need some concrete.

I need some concrete.

And several tonnes of non-perishable food...

.....And water, plenty of water :|

Then you need
-Suit and Mask
-Geiger counter or effective radiation detection devices
-"How to plant crops in a nuclear wasteland" help yourself book
-Some weapon to fend off intruders and nutcases
-Hydrogen power generator (Gas is going to become hard to come by in the nuclear future)

'Mr. Fusion' power generator.

(Maybe he got the idea from 'Back To The Future')

On a more serious note, I always thought Putin was a nut case, but didn't think he was crazy enough to threaten with nukes.:|

He'd been doing it for a while now. The Russain Airforce has restarted its long range nuclear armed patrols and about the same time thier strategic missile were once again targeted at Western Europe.

It's a goddamn shield you dumb Russians, not a missile launcher aimed at you.

No wonder we're building those with those ****s ready to stir some shit.

I can't help but have the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater plot come to mind...

For those who must know: Part 1, and Part 2

This kind of shit is stupid and horrible for relations.

Now we have a situation where military commanders in the US no doubt are amending the most recent plans for war with Russia, which will most likely develop into World War 3.

It's like trying to tame a ****ing bear.

I wouldn't worry about it though, I doubt anything will happen.

That's what they always say.
Well, I think, I honestly can't be arsed to look up famous quotes in history.

Dude thats what every country was saying about WW2 , hell i remember one photo of a paper in our country from a history book , the headline was "Potential war with Germany avoided" and that was THREE DAYS before the war started.

This just in!

A potential war with Russia has been avoided!

I know, that's what I'm saying.

It's going to escalate. It's horrible for relations for Russia to have said that.

Still don't think The US and Russia will fight. That would be absolutely idiotic.

Neither country has anything to gain. Not going to happen. Now if there was tons of oil involved, well, things might be different.

my thoughts exactly so I really don't understand why they are so mad :-\

Well, imagine if Russia was building missile shields in Cuba. There would be major, major concern in the US. That pretty much sums it up.

Russia is just flexing, letting The US know that they don't ****ing trust us, and they will be ready to fight if need be, and they will be watching closely.

That's just what I think anyway.

Now the interesting part about that is there is oil involved to a certain degree , do you have any idea how much oil and oil pipes is/are in/around russia?

Yeah, I was just thinking about that after I wrote that. No I'm not fully aware of Russia's oil resources, but I have a feeling I'm about to find out.

I do remember reading something about a Russian oil pipeline recently.

There has actually been a bit on the news (at least here) about Russias oil pipelines , and i understand a few years ago there was a sabotage of a pipeline in Russia , from what i hear accusations were flying at the time.

Edit : To get an idea Russia is the worlds largest natural gas exporter and second largest oil exporter...

Honestly this is just as much the USA's fault as Russia. Upsetting the MAD status quo is never a good idea... just look at the Cuban missile crisis.

I'm actually losing faith in the human race, I mean half of Europe would rather give Putin fellatio, and large segments of the public love to take every instance of a repulsive regime doing wrong and turning it back on the US so they can fuel just one more rant about a country they share most cultural ties with because they have some need to hate themselves.

I mean **** sake, the worst America does is have a cock of a president now and then, and maybe invade a piss easy distant country that had a horrible regime anyway (and I was ****ing against the war in Iraq before it became cool!), Russia planned for this shit, invaded a direct neighbour, won't leave, and has allowed militia's and irregulars from all over the place to sate their primate desire for murdering and pillaging and letting them run amok in the parts of Georgia the Russians refuse to leave.

I think someone mentioned, Russian Nukes fly over the pole, they don't go anywhere near ****ing Poland, which makes you wonder how the **** a missile shield in a country they don't even share a real border with is such a threat.

Frankly the Russian government needs to be ****ing round up by every liberal self respecting Russian and deported to Iran where they can join Armidinijad whatshecalled's little League of Villainy.

Next the country needs serious denazification because **** me, those nationalists are facepalm worthy sad ironic in their rhetoric and behaviour. Great way to go morons, your grandfathers/great grandfathers only fought tooth and nail to defeat fascism (to be replaced by Stalinism, mmmm much better yeah?) and here you are, probably the biggest scare to the Jews after Islamic fundamentalists in decades.

Man I hate douchebag regimes that deserve to be held in contempt, but I hate self hating emo's that need to rip on America out of a need to be a massive emo douche more.

We get it, America does wrong, it gets ****ing flak for it, this is about Russia, ****ing keep on topic ugh.

So yeah,. Russia bad, emo's worse.

Don't be such a self-righteous ass. The thread is about Russia's response to a move by America.
BUT OH NOEZ! Don't mention teh US!!1 Totalllllly irrelevant ffs you emoz!

Like I said, setting up SDI-like systems on Russia's doorstep is destabilising.
Look at all the fuss that got kicked up over Reagan's Star Wars plans. Same principle.

^ And the USSR's economy collapsed because the Kremlin believed the devices to be feasible and operational in the near future (at that time) and they planned to up the ante.

Nurizekos' right. On Topic.

So we can't mention the USA in a topic who's first post contains

Russia is considering arming its Baltic fleet with nuclear warheads for the first time since the cold war, senior military sources warned last night.

The warnings came 24 hours after Russia told Poland that it could face a nuclear strike for agreeing to let the United States station components of the missile defence shield on its soil.

Yeah I see how that makes sense.

Talking about the US' actions is certainly on-topic.

According to a local news site Russians say that they got info that USA, Canada and Poland are planning to deploy warships to the Black Sea in late August.

...Wat?

And BTW they deny claims that they're arming their Baltic Fleet with nuclear warheads.

Yeah but then you would have to deal with the war between giant ants and neuclear turtles.

Interesting article RE this:

look forward to a glowing future, in which missile defence, according to the Pentagon, will “protect our homeland … and our friends and allies from ballistic missile attack”(1); as long as the Russians wait until it’s working before they nuke us. The good news is that, at the current rate of progress, reliable missile defence is only 50 years away. The bad news is that it has been 50 years away for the past six decades...the system has been in development since 1946, and so far it has achieved a grand total of nothing.

that guy said:
US politics, because of the failure by both Republicans and Democrats to deal with the problems of campaign finance, is rotten from head to toe. But under Bush the corruption has acquired Nigerian qualities. Federal government is a vast corporate welfare programme, rewarding the industries which give millions in political donations with contracts worth billions. Missile defence is the biggest pork barrel of all, the magic pudding which won’t run out however much you eat. The funds channelled to defence, aerospace and other manufacturing and service companies will never run dry because the system will never work.

what a crazy dude said:
If we seek to understand US foreign policy in terms of a rational engagement with international problems, or even as an effective means of projecting power, we are looking in the wrong place. The government’s interests have always been provincial. It seeks to appease lobbyists, shift public opinion at key stages of the political cycle, accommodate crazy Christian fantasies and pander to television companies run by eccentric billionaires. The US does not really have a foreign policy. It has a series of domestic policies which it projects beyond its borders. That they threaten the world with 57 varieties of destruction is of no concern to the current administration. The only question of interest is who gets paid and what the political kickbacks will be.

Russia just needs to chill out, this is a defensive system if the shit hits the fan. Becides, the defensive system can only do so much.

The nuke interceptors can't take down a long range nuclear missle at a certain point, it can only take it down while it is idle (before in flight). After that, there is no chance that the missle gets stoped and will reach its target. As so I have heard.

Also how many missles does Russia have? Probably millions laying around in hundreds of missle silos. That's only a few interceptors to go against a million nuclear missles. Think a flyswatter against a bee hive.

Let the False Flag operations commence :flame:

We have the ability to deploy warships to the Black Sea?
