Yes.
That's a terribly stupid question. What's wrong with you?
As for everyone asshatting about the scout law then pull your dick around and **** yourself,
it's a volunteer organization and you don't have to be in it if you don't want to.
I think PETA is full of shit, but I don't care about them because I don't have to join!
Personally I wouldn't be interested in camping with a homosexual in my tent or showering at camp with someone who is, sorry if that makes me more than a little uncomfortable.
You don't have to be Christian, true that's the majority of boy scouts, but that's also the majority in the US.
I have a friend who's Buddhist, he's a boy scout, I have a friend who's Hindu, he's a boy scout, I know two Muslims who are boy scouts. If you don't like the requirement to believe in a god I repeat: it's a volunteer organization.
Too much to list.
Why don't you people nationalism?
You know, I've only ever been to scout meetings at the church since it was a church-sponsored troop, but the only religious thing we ever did during the meetings was say a prayer at the bebginning and the end, like any church gathering. Hell the opening prayer was part of a "combined" opening thing when the boy scouts were with the church's girls to go over announcements and shit before we split up, and the prayer wasn't even part of the boy scout meeting.
If I went to a troop that was part of a school or just a community troop, I don't know if they would say a prayer before and after, probably not. So that leaves zero religion during the meetings... infact, the only thing religious at all I can think of in the program is you say "under god" when you say the pledge of alliegence, and they have a specific award for pretty much every faith there is that you can get by being in scouts and your church for a specific amount of time. The award isn't mandatory for advancement and is way in the back of the book.
According to the Bylaws of the BSA, Declaration of Religious Principle:
"The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, ‘On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.’ The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members."[2]
During the membership application process and as a requirement to obtain membership, youths and adults are required to subscribe to the precepts of the Declaration of Religious Principle and to agree to abide by the Scout Oath and Law, which include the words, "do my duty to God" and "reverent". Youths are also required to repeat the Scout Oath and Law periodically after being accepted as Scouts. The BSA believes that atheists and agnostics are not appropriate role models of the Scout Oath and Law for boys, and thus will not accept such adults as leaders.[2]
Position on homosexuals
Since 1991, openly gay individuals have been officially prohibited from joining the Boy Scouts of America
Guess I missed which part of the discussion was being discussed.
In that case, I've never met a gay boy scout.
openly gay individuals have been officially prohibited from joining the Boy Scouts of America
they're "incognito"
I don't like scouts, nothing there is apealing to me, I WANT to draw, IT IS MY DREAM to make video games, not go in the forest and wait to die for 7 days. Plus, all I ever do when I go to scouts is tell the younger scouts what "NecroPhellia" is. THEY JERK IT OFF IN THE TENTS!!!!!! I'VE HEARD THEM DO IT!!!!
Stern, please note that the Boy Scouts in America in no real way reflect the modern Scouting movement across the rest of the world.
sigh .... from the top of last page:Within the majority of Scouting gays are openly accepted and religion takes a backseat - we are spiritual, but not religious, hell at least half of the Rovers I know are atheist or agnostic...
cptstern said:it isnt a case of whether or not the Boy scouts are openly religious. no one is disputing that
it's that you are denied admission if you are openly gay and or atheist.
...Back's still dry?
*facepalm* bat?
Too much to list.

That's the BSA Law in its entirety, if you think there's something wrong with that moral set then you have some serious issues.
Teaching people to obey authority without question is a terrible thing. I know children do need to be obedient to a certain extent as they cannot understand the reasons behind things much of the time, but I would be very much concerned that the idea of obeying the man in charge because he's the man in charge could be something they would carry on to adulthood. I think such blind unquestioning obedience diminishes one's humanity.Obedient

naw parents only expect complete obedience 48% of the time
