StarCraft II

Oh man, I remember that. I am an empathic person, so my general is an empathic one, which results in an almost obsessive drive to reduce casualties as much as possible. In fact, I can stall an entire attack just because one of the major units is badly damaged and may die.

As such, you can imagine how long some Starcraft missions took me, especially when playing the Protoss. I think The Big Push took me three hours to complete, just because I decided to nuke the enemy to hell and back to minimize likely casualties I'd suffer during a frontal attack.

Longest mission for me in SC was "The Hammer Falls", it took me several hours to complete and I remember it was nearly impossible. It's that kind of mission that I love and that's missing from SC2.

In Brood War my favorite was "To Chain the Beast", another one that takes hours and it's extremely difficult, because of that powerful ultralisk that appears every few minutes.

You enjoy it when it makes you want to pull your hair out?

Im kind of like that in MP so far. 2 matches. Owned in each. Cheeky bugger camped outside my 1 base ramp.

Zerg is a COMPLETELY different style of play for me. To be honest, theyve always confused me. I spent about 10 minutes trying to remember how to increase the movement speed of my zerglings and hydras for god sake.

Found a CE in a toy store around the corner. Was tempted but I resisted. I did get the strategy guide though, since the manual is a bit lacking for SC newbs like me. I still want to get into the multiplayer ...

Protoss builds are about the same, with the exception of increased microing. Protoss would not be a bad beginning race, but once you go against actual opponents or tougher A.I the Protoss becomes an incredibly micro heavy race (especially with the warp gates, even now I still constantly forget to build my army, and that has been my achilles heel).

Zerg gameplay and builds have completely changed. It definitely follows the lore with the whole evolution thing, because everything about the zerg is so much more different now. This is definitely the hardest race to learn, but probably the least micro heavy once you get used to the race (especially when it comes to building an army. With the zerg, you almost never forget to build an army, because you build everything in the hatchery. I'm not sure about you guys, but I always forget to check my bases and buildings to ensure I'm producing soldiers.)

Terran in my opinion would be the best race to go for beginners (which is not surprising since this is Wings Of Liberty). Terran is the only race who could box themselves in early on, which is a plus for new comers unaware of the new controls/environment. With the salvage ability, mistakes are the least punishing for Terran.

Absolutely. You have no idea how it feels like after you win. I might change the difficulty to brutal.

That's why Brutal is there! :D

After I finish the campaign on Hard, I'll probably go back and do Brutal, or try to finish all of the achievements.

Terran is also a good multiplayer race because of the ability to change build strategies so quickly. They're very dynamic and that's helpful in a situation where you have scouted and need to change your build strategy to one more effective vs your enemy. For instance, you don't want to go mass marines when there's siege tanks or colossi around because you'll get raped, but at the same time you can stay fairly walled in and move starports on your barracks reactors to make mass vikings in no time. Protoss is a good race for mobility with warp gates, but their shining glory is void rays. It is very true they require great micro with their units being so expensive and strong. Immortals are amazing late in the game if you are facing the right enemy. Zerg play does seem a lot different, but I don't play them much. From observation they seem to be less building oriented (no more 10 hatcheries to build enough units) and have more importance to units... while still retaining that "make enough of anything to win" technique.

Unrelated but fairly important info: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/arch...rd-confirms-starcraft-ii-overheating-bug.aspx

It will probably be patched or something, but here's a real quick workaround.

I enjoyed that. He explains the strategy used, and more importantly HOW he won or how he lost.

Valuable for noobs like me.

That was one of the few times I've actually subscribed to a Youtube author.

So I don't understand. Isn't this what a video card would be doing in Crysis (i.e., running at full throttle)? What would make a card "overheat" here? Or is it because people would be dumb enough to leave their game on that screen for an extended length of time?

It was a line of code maintaining a fps cap.

It just arrived! The box is very cool, I love Blizzards game boxes. Now to install...

got a code for the trial and gotta say i'm really enjoying it :D

so yea need to see if i can get my hands on the sweet LE :p

Can I only play online with people in my region? or world wide?

Taviow, I kind of agree with you that the missions are pretty easy. Even on hard most of them haven't been too difficult, but some have been quite challenging.
The last Zeratul mission is quite long and really difficult.

I think that if you were to play through SC1's missions again you would find that you can beat them faster because you've gotten much better.
It would be nice though if there were a few crazy missions like "To chain the Beast". One of the reasons that one was so long was because it required 2 huge tech switches and a massive defense(which was totally useless for offense until the final push) to stay alive until the second tech switch was made.

You're making me want to play BW again! *shakes a loving fist*

I am doing the Zeratul missions at the moment.

First of all great CGI movie. The fighting between Zeratul and Kerrigan was so awesome. Also, it is cool to play with the Protoss as well now. I like how you're drip fed new units and abilities. I haven't felt overwhelmed by new stuff yet.

Just in your region.

Region locking is really irritating, but I've heard they may take it down after a few months. An Activision ploy to get the real enthusiasts to buy several copies for competitive gaming across Asia / Europe & Americas.

I'll be activating my trial version tomorrow, kinda interested in some co-op with Europeans vs AI (after I've found my feet :p)

I've noticed on your battle.net account page that you can change your region.

You simply go to that specific part of the community. US vs EU forum, stuff like that.

Oh and @ Glenn

Last night I used up my entire 7 hour guest pass that my friend gave me. First of all this game is freaking sweet and the campaigns story and presentation is cool, a mix between Firefly and Mass Effect. My trial ran out last night, then I was thrown to the main menu. I clicked on Play as Guest, and thought WTF then clicked Challenge mode, and I was playing the game again. I exited the game, found my save files, dragged them to the Guest Save folder. Relaunched and clicked play as guest again, and was able to continue my campaign. I did NOT crack or hack the game in any way shape or form, but I also did NOT pay for it either. So whats the deal, did anyone else figure this out?

Yeah, I've heard similar stuff, like how since the Korean Open Beta has everything available, it's necessary to divide the regions for the duration.

I love the aliens referece when you click marines.

"Man, still stuck in this chicken sh*t outfit.

This wouldn't have happened if Blizzard was given more time.

The first SC beta was a lot longer from what I remember. An issue like this should/would have been picked up if the beta ran for a month longer.

I doubt it. No one was beta testing the single player and the issue is exclusively in the campaign. Internal beta testing is on top end rigs that can handle the heat. I was wondering why my computer was pumping out more hot air than it has for any other game. Nothing bad happened, but it was actually heating up my room. Now my fans don't even speed up. Good stuff, glad someone caught it before anything bad potentially happened to my shit.

I'm getting in to the final missions and I wish I had saved money for later upgrades instead of getting the stupid ones early on.

I love this game so far! Except I suck at multiplayer. I got one win because the other player disconnected though, yay!

8 games, 4 wins on 1 : 1

4 games, 4 wins on 2 : 2, and all because of my Reaper rush. Tbh, nobody can counter a reaper rush + a zergling rush on 2 : 2. Reapers might be a balance issue.

I might buy the NA copy for a week to play the singleplayer. If I do, anyone want to play with me? Still not that good, especially after 15 ~ 20 minutes.

Great, I'll give you a PM if I do buy the NA version :p

EDIT: What. You can't buy the NA version for just 30 days? Shit.

I did notice the framerate in the menus suck big time! also the night day mission was really fun! still haven't touched multiplayer but the time I played an RTS game online, I repelled 2 people for about 45 mins straight. it was in battle for middle earth but obviously i still lost. i'm willing to try this out sometime though

Just follow the instructions in the link to fix the problem.

I've heard barely any complaints about this game, which is a great thing!

What little I just played of this I liked a lot, I can't help but want a computer that can run it maxed though, though it looks good enough on my comp on current settings, but it kinda lacks the shadows in the cutscenes in the bar etc etc.

I still fail to see how a main menu can overheat your card regardless of frame lock.

Could that turning planet REALLY cause your card to go crazy?
