StarCraft II

So, as a standard Zerg player, i dumped all the single player money and upgrades into a mobile fast army.

Here comes "All In" mission, and it seems so freaking hard, Ive failed so many times already.

I have nothing in turtling, no turret upgrades, no bunker upgrades, no siege tank upgrades, i mean **** **** this is hard

wtf.

Wait.

You upgrade units outside of the game with money?

Yar, you gain credits each mission, and more credits for doing side-missions, and then those credits are spent on, say, increasing the range and damage of your Reaper's pistols, or adding Stim Packs or shields to your Marines, or upgrading your medic so you dont need a tech lab to train them etc etc.

It all has quite a big effect on your gameplay style.

yo Tosh fans unite. mother****er is ill

also who saved Haven from them protoss ****ers. i did

wtf is this "not a full game" bullshit. I'll be angry about the price of addon games when they come out. For now, I'll enjoy the ****ing full game of Starcraft II shut the **** up until you've played it, dumbasses

I'm loving Starcraft 2 at the moment but it's a bloody pain in the arse I can't play due to maintenance works :|

No, I believe that's Pi trying to maintain our delusions that Munro, is in fact alive, and not long ago disposed of by Pi.

The kill 4 hatcheries on the Zero hour mission in Hard Mode achievement is impossible.

Hey not to be a bitch but an we get spoiler tags for another couple days on specific mission happenings? No big if not, I can avoid the thread.

Just can't play me lovely CE for another day.

I wonder who went around brainwashing people in to thinking this was going to be a fraction of a game? I think the moment blizzard said it was part of a trilogy, some guy just said 'ZOMG IT ONLY PART GAME" and people believed him. I mean it's like thinking The Fellowship of the Rings isn't a real book because it's part of a trilogy... same with any book/movie that's part of a series.

This game ranks amongst the top RTS games I've ever played. While that isn't an utterly complete range of RTS games, I think I've covered most of the popular titles and plenty more of the obscure. I can't really put my finger on any real flaw. Every turn is a surprise. I wish I could continue playing right now but I probably won't until late tonight or tomorrow. I think one of the best parts of the game is that it eliminated some of the parts I hate about RTS games - mainly upgrading things that you've upgraded in previous missions. While it doesn't eliminate them all, it gets rid of just enough to not detract from the core gameplay.

So now some spoiler stuff...
Who thought they'd be playing as Protoss? I didn't think you would at all... I don't really want to play as Zerg if that situation comes up, but I have a feeling it will. I feel like I should get back to the main missions, but those protoss missions gave me tons of reearch points. I've finished the zerg and the protoss research is 6 points away. That tech bay/reactor combo would be badass in multiplayer... overpowered but badass.

So, does anyone have any problems with the game's music anymore?
Has Blizz improved it since beta?

lol... I forgot abou the music. It's fantastic. In game music has a nice variety but the real kicker is the jukebox that you can play between missions. There are a lot of covers of southern-rock style music. Notably there's Sweet Home Alabama and Burning Love. I enjoy it.

If you're in to RTS games, yes, you're going to have a good time. Will you be a little lost? Maybe, though the installation screen will yell to you the backstory (though I think it skips a bunch and I believe it changes some things but I can't remember), and it will be reiterated a bit in the game. The gameplay, however, is the strong point and if you like RTS games it will probably be your favorite.

Well I'm a fan of every other game Blizzard has made...maybe I'll give this a shot. I usually suck at RTS games but i think I'm just outta practice.

The singleplayer holds your hand a bit, and always introduces you to the new units etc instead of just dumping you in and letting you run around free.

Its all about the MP of course, but the SP is damn good so far.

If you don't mind waiting a little while, I can give you my impressions. I'm in the same boat, never really played the first one, and have no idea what the setting or plot really is.

From the install screen, I gathered that some people went to some planet where these Zerg aliens were or something. Then some evil dude made a machine that attracted the aliens to the settlement so all the humans would get wiped out. Some other alien dudes called Protoss or something went to help the human settlement, but was delayed by some chick that was sent by the evil dude to... delay them. So the Zerg aliens overran the settlement, and then killed everybody else including the Protoss and that chick, since the evil dude just left her there.

And thats now all I know about Starcraft.

If you're into Blizz games you'll prolly like it. I prefer my RTS more tactical like Company of Heroes, but still I am having a good time. Plus the campaign is entertaining. Good pacing and every mission is different.

EDIT Like Krynn I haven't played the first game.

dam I know the storyline almost from memory and you are the ones who get to play the game :(

I think I will clear away from the interent for a while so you stop shoving to my face all your starcraft2 experiences

And the evil dude gets his ass kicked by the United Earth Directorate, the glorious leaders of humanity of Old Earth, who goes and in one month nearly wipes out the Terran Dominion and captures its Emperor. They then go and kick some Zerg ass, and capture and enslave their leader as well. All three races unite to defeat the UEDEF, which gets crippled, and then the chick (who is now the leader of the Zerg) stabs the other two races in the back. The UED, the Dominion, and the remenant Protoss unite to defeat Kerrigan, but are repelled.

The UED Expeditionary Fleet under the command of Adm. Gerard Dugalle retreats back to Earth, but is intercepted along the way by Kerrigan. No UED ship makes it back to Earth.

Earth is fine, btw. The UED lost interest in the sector and rumors say that they've moved on to fight another sentient alien race for the glory of all mankind. The UEDEF was less than 1% of the total strength of the UED military, and it yet managed to almost take over the entire sector, single-handily.

The evil dude and his Dominion retreat to their planets, to rebuild what Kerrigan and the UED had destroyed.

The Protoss.... did something. Forgot. Prolly doesn't matter.

And SC2 is 4 years later.

I dont know when I will get, dont want to spend that much money

StarCraft II launched to much fanfare yesterday late morning at Funan the IT Mall in Singapore. And amidst the thousands of fans queuing up to get a copy of the game, the fellow who stood for over 24 hours to take home the bragging rights of being the 'first' owner of a copy, broke down in tears over national television during an interview.

The Protoss wiped out the Zerg with a Xel'Naga explodey thing on Shakuras or whatever. The Terrans were still all ass-kicked from the whole overmind killing (pretty much everyone was but Zerg) and weren't much of a fight for the UED. The UED also took control of the overmind using the Psi emitter technology they got when they beat up Mengsk. Kerrigan using a portion of the non-overmind controlled zerg had to ally with the battered protoss and the raynor/mengks remaining terran forces to kill the overmind and destroy the psi emitter to regain control over all of the zerg. Then she turned on the Protoss and Terran Dominion and got rid of them (and some key figures). Then you get the FMV of her chasing down the UED jerks and killing them in space (anyone know how zerg fly in space?).

So it's not like the UED are mega-ultra powerful as much as they got there at the right time and made the right moves to take control of the strongest faction.

So here's something - can anyone else access 1v1 in multiplayer? When I go to it I have everything but a 1v1 button. What's with that? Anyone else have that issue?

edit: I guess it's working now - my friend said it was anyways.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/...s-18-million-copies-on-day-1-excluding-korea/

Early data is in and it looks like StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has become the fastest-selling game of 2010 to date and one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time. VGChartz estimates that around 1.8 million units of the game were sold on day 1 across the Americas and Europe including both physical retail sales and Battle.net download sales. This figure does not include players in Korea where it is virtually impossible to accurately estimate how many people will have purchased the game due to the way in which it is sold - mainly via time cards and also with Blizzard announcing that World of Warcraft users with an active account in Korea would be able to play the game free of charge. The number of players in Korea playing the game on day 1 could be as high at 3-4 million but only Blizzard will know for sure.

Breaking down the 1.8 million sales in the Americas and Europe, VGChartz estimates that around 31% or 570,000 units were sold digitally via Battle.net (obtained via a study of order numbers during the first day of sale) with the remainder coming from physical retail sales and 57% of total sales coming from the Americas with the remainder from Europe.

We expect Blizzard to make an official announcement in the coming days and hopefully they will shed some light on the success of the title in Asian markets as well. The current record-holder for day 1 PC sales is the World of Warcraft expansion - Wrath of Lych King which sold 2.8 million units on day 1 including sales in Asia - it will be interesting to see how Blizzard quantifies total sales and whether StarCraft II will be revealed as the new fastest-seller.

Where do I get my CD key from with the Digital Download version? I wasn't even sent an invoice email when I bought it, so I have no idea where to even look for it in order to activate my copy.

Your copy doesn't need to be activated if you bought a digital copy. It's already activated in your account. You don't even get to have a cd key of your own :(

:(

Ok. I was able to play the campaign, but I wasn't sure if it was going to become an issue if I tried multiplayer.

I've only had time to play the very first campaign mission, but it seems pretty cool. The setting is likable (its got a sort of Firefly vibe with Raynor being in the Saloon with the slow western guitar music playing), and the graphics are fantastic. I dont like the UI much though :/ As for the gameplay, I can't really say much since the first mission was just running around with a bunch of dudes shooting shit. Doesn't seem like combat is going to be very intricate without any cover system or formations. Kinda lame.

I've watched a ton of battle reports on SC2 over the past 2 days. I haven't taken much interest in the game up till now...my RTS history consists of C&C titles (Generals, Zero Hour & RA2 being favourites) and CoH which I loved. I gotta say this game looks fantastic and loads of fun.

Only problem for me is that I haven't played RTS in ages. I played some RA3 today and I'm terrible. Really really awful...I lost to a medium AI for chrissake and I'm worried I won't enjoy this game because I'm an embarrassment to the genre.

For anyone else wanting to watch the battle reports from some of the better players (150 APM level), check out these two channels.

APM is a joke. It doesn't make you good, it's just a number. People that are good manipulate their APM easily because you sure as hell don't need to click as much as they do to do things.

As for sucking, it's ok to suck. You'll get thrown in bronze with a bunch of other sucky people and you'll get better slowly.

Play the campaign to get used to the units and controls. Then play with us and it will help. What Me, Tav, Op *RIP*, Sliver, Xev, Quix, etc like to do is play and watch the replays. Go over and say "Here is what you could do/need to work on." That is key to becoming better at the game...play a lot.

APM is a joke to an extent. The spam at the start is to keep good players in the grove of moving fast. But if they have a 150 APM avg throughout the game, then that obviously mean they have some skills. That means their macro is very good along with their micro. There are a lot of people who just spam the shit out of clicking/hotkeying/etc at the start, and then their APM just plummets afterwards when things get intense.

Well I don't mean to judge them purely by APM, I was kind of trying to use that as a benchmark...but just pick a video from those channels and watch their micro, it's absolutely insane.

That's the other issue Paul, time & money. Wish I had all the hours god sends and the finances to buy such an expensive game! I suppose the biggest thing which interests me is playing online co-op vs hard AI. Used to love doing that in other RTS games.

I've got some kind of trial key for a few hours play so I'm going to go and register this and see what happens.

I think it has to do with the fact that Blizzard's site says "It will only contain the Terran missions." Gotta admit, I was a bit disappointed. But that was before I actually played it.

Then they hit you with the Protoss missions, successfully integrating one of the races into the first part of a trilogy. It is certainly a full game, but I am hoping to play a bit as Zerg before the end.

It's not a short game. It's the first part of a trilogy that is gonna be ****ing amazing. If they keep up the singleplayer for the next 2, then I will have no problem paying for them... even if Blizzard is greedy, they still deliver.

I just cant comprehend the complexity of the strategy some people have, either naturally or through playing nothing else.

Watching a battle report of a Terran vs Zerg, the Zerg tried to push through the rocks in the south east, the Terran player built a depot just behind the rocks to block their advance. I would NEVER think of something like that, Id just throw a load of guys behind the rocks and wait.

And he deliberately used a single marine to block a path between his 2 barracks so that some zerglings couldnt get to his SCVs and cut off his economy a bit, whilst his 5-or-so bunch of marines took out the zerg from behind.

Its that ability to attack in 2 or 3 directions at once, I just cant do it in any singleplayer game. I know you can just attack-move and the AI does the rest, but I want that control. I want that ability to ignore everything around me and go for that one tank with every guy Ive got, rather than have all my guys shoot low damage at every target. Focused attacks.

You should see me in SP. I build a big army, and it runs around in a pod with a few guys left behind for the inevitable sneaky-sneaky-base-attack-when-you're-not-looking. I get that synchronised firing so much, I pretty much 'one' shot everything if you know what I mean. Slap 3 medics in the middle which have been upgraded and its easy.

But if my base does get attacked, I have to abandom my pack and focus on defending with a small amount of guys back at base. The big pod of guys just stands there in the middle of nowhere.

I dont know if its just my brain not being able to multitask like that. And it only seems to happen in RTS games.

FPS games Im like frigging lightning. Im always thinking 10 steps ahead.

Even when I play pro paintball. Everyone in my team is always amazed at how quick I react. Most people lean out, look, take it in, think of what to do and maybe let off about 30 rounds randomly (at 15 rounds a second). With me my feet are running with my gun up before Ive even finished leaning out and looking. I take it all in so fast. In what feels like a split second Ive already thought ''cant see anyone leaning out, cant see anyone that is waiting on my lane, dorito would be a good move and shoot in-field, slide before you reach it then shoot tape and wrap in-field'' and Im gone.

I just seem to suck at RTS games, especially on MP, and its so damn frustrating.

...even if Blizzard is greedy, they still deliver.

You'll probably find that it's Actvision that are greedy. Blizzard just say ''How high''.
