The Texas House of Representatives passed a bill banning homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals from being foster parents.

If the bill gains approval from the Texas Senate, the state will be allowed to investigate the backgrounds of current foster parents and remove children living in non-heterosexual households.

All future foster parents will be required to disclose their sexual preference on an application form, a legislative aide said.

The move was denounced by local activists.

"More than 43,000 gay and lesbian couples in Texas are forming families and raising children, and this attack on LBGT (lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgendered) Texans will tear apart our families and remove our children from loving, stable families," the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas said in a statement.

"In an already over-burdened foster care system, the effect of reducing the pool of foster parents does nothing to protect Texas children," it added.
It's utterly asinine if this becomes law, but I can't say it surprises me, being Texas and all. Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that a certain party claims it is all about "family values" yet at the same time is attempting to break apart families? :|

It boils down to religion (because seperation of church and state is nonexistant), conservatives fear losing the religious vote so they must do everything in their power to appease them (schiavo anyone) that includes attacking abortion, and, gay marriage/adoption.

Does this mean they are going to be able to investigate and break up families that have already adopted children?

Well at least we passed the Cupcake law!!! YES!!!

in case you didnt know its a law that says if its your birthday your allowed to bring cupcakes to school, and because of this law i have eaten many cupcakes since it was passed a few weeks ago.

Phew! for a second, I thought they were just making stupid laws for no particular reason. Its good to see they still have some common sense lol

haha rofl

actually it was introduced because one of the representatives had an 8 year old daughter who wasnt allowed to bring cupcakes and it was her birthday.
In my opnion its the most important law since the bill of rights. I think its part of our persuit of freedom and happiness. So basically what im saying is that we revolted from England becuase the king wouldnt let us have cupcakes at school... on our birthday.

I think there should be a national cupcake day... Cupcakes freaking rock, with fudge icing on them mmmm.... cupcakes....

It never ceases to amaze me how some of the fundamentalist right manages to move BACKWARDS with laws like this (referring to the law on gay foster parents, not cupcakes :p)

this seems like a big step backwards, I'm not sure our country is moving in the right directions with regards to homosexuality (i do belive, we will look back on things like this with a fair amount of shame at our neighbors to the south, just like slavery).

Bull... who in their right mind would vote for that -_-
Thats just appalling...

Studies exist that show a child with same sex parents are worse off than a child with a mom and a dad.

I would post a link, but I can't find it right now.

Gays are capable of completely loving relationships, and their children are absolutely NO different than if they had had heterosexual parents.

I did the reasearch. I am wrong. The above is correct.

I will go read the legislation.

I actually think being gay..is well just gay imo but that pretty harsh to say that gay families cant have kids

Bleh, whatever. So long as the BS politics of the "land of the free" doesn't reach the UK, i'm content to sit back and chuckle contemptously for a bit.

Ahaha huh ha.

well i just thought i'd post this here since its relevant to this thread i guess, today spain will pass through a bill to legalise gay/lesbian marriages and also the ability for gay/lesbian couples to adopt children, the bill was passed awhile ago but today it will be ratified in the lower house

wouldnt the kids with homosexual parents be bullied to death tho? :(

even still i think texas should rethink.

I can only imagine the shit those kids would get in High School/Jr. High.

you know they wouldn't get into any shit if there weren't people like bodacious there to push the subject and spread hate and intolerance... But its apperently the christian way nowadays isn't it.

(notice, this is more for bodacious than you seinfeld.)

Then wouldn't that mean 66% of molestations were 'straight'?

65% were straight ...1% marked themselves as "Tri-sexual (Tri-sexual: try anything: mud, chickens, loaves of bread etc)

91% of child molesters are heterosexual ..so lets just eliminate foster care all together because they are at far higher risk in a heterosexual family then they are in a homosexual family

what really bothers me: why do people give a **** what other people do? why is the happiness of children conditional on what goes on behind closed doors?

because they cant help themselves, it is a huge character weakness.

the whole problem is that too many people (straight gay or whatever) don't "close the door"..it is offensive to me when a couple is sitting in public somewhere and practically having sex right there...

if a couple, straight or gay won't control themselves in public why should/would they at home?

it is also the way alot of gays act in public...pardon the phrase but, many try to force their gayness down everyones throat..leading many to believe that is how all gays are

I have a good friend who is gay..but I never knew until a couple of years ago and I have known this guy for about 15 years..

if EVERYONE could be like that with their sex life (keep it private!!) I don't think these things would be such an issue..

just a thought

this doesnt have much to do with the topic. Public affection is fine, i've never seen someone having sex in public. And who are we to force our will upon other people.

It is impossible for homosexuals who want to adopt to keep their sex life private

It's an interesting point. I personally dislike a lot of Gay people. In fine with homosexuality, there's nothing wrong with it IMO, but there is something terribly wrong with a lot of the gay people I know. They're so damn superficial, like their personality begins and ends at their sexuality: people who're just a single step from writing "GAY" on their foreheads in big purple letters. They're loud, obnoxious, self-centered, overtly camp and total drama queens - these things are not a requirement of being homosexual, yet this is how some people go around defining themselves, and I find it really, really hard to accept people like that, and I don't doubt that there are people who dislike Gays just because of this stereotype that they themselves seem so intent on spreading around...

but there are people who wear skimpy outfits when they probably shouldnt, some people pick their nose in public when they probably shouldnt ...but does that give me the right to tell them to stop? no, it's none of my business

but I see what you are saying, I agree that it would probably ease things amongst the homophobes ...but then again part of me wants to tell them to go **** themselves cuz it's none of their business what other people do

it's a stereotype and like all stereotypes it's these people that are most visible to you ...someone mentioned not knowing someone was gay even though they had known them for years. It's because not everyone is defined by their sexuality ...it's the same for heterosexuals: some people just flaunt their sexuality ..they're known as "cock-teasers" or "bad-boys"

..some people are obnoxious regardless of sexual preference ..judge the individual not the entire group.

So... homosexuals shouldn't be able to adopt because the rest of the world is ignorant and violent?

why did you cut out the part where i said "texas should rethink", please stop making me look like a homophobe when i clearly am not.

where did i say "homosexuals shouldn't be able to adopt because the rest of the world is ignorant and violent"?....

stop puttin words in my mouth absinthe, please.

it doesnt bother me if homosexual couples foster children, they are as capable of lookling after and caring for a child as the next hetrosexual couple.

as someone who's worked with kids I can say that hate is a learned behaviour ..which almost always can be traced back to the parents
