If you watch the Bonus Round on Gametrailers (all 4 parts are pretty good discusions about GTA4, the console war as a result of its release etc, and from what I can see; some new footage mixed in) here: http://www.gametrailers.com/bonusround.php?ep=20&pt=2

They talk about the DVD capacity issues, and how the graphics will take up atleast half the space on the DVDs used, and how it will be a much smaller game than the likes of San Andreas. But yeah, id rather sacrifice size over detail, feel and sense of immersion.

At least the was one intelligent person in that clip. The mother who backs up the fact that parents need to be in control of their kids.

I don't see anything wrong with the ads. You see advertisements for 18+ films all the time and I don't see anyone complaining about those... :|

7 more months before GTA 4. I can't wait

:(

Errr...what?

Rockstar have already said that copies are being sent to retail stores already, so basically a majority of the stores across the world will already have it in their back rooms NOW..or maybe in a few days anyway.

Its gone gold. Its coming 29th, dont worry.

This isnt Valve, Rockstar always deliver on time.

PC version I think.

/hugs 360
I've seen no announcement for it yet. ;(

A PC release in 7 months would be the most optimistic scenario. I can imagine Rockstar dragging it out for 9+ months (if they even do it at all).

EDIT: LOL, Dynasty, have you completely forgotten GTA IV was supposed to come out last October?

Haha.

ps3 is getting downloadable content, just a little later. the 360 only bought the rights for the content for a limited amount of time. gta iv will be better on the ps3 b/c rockstar prevers ps3, thats why they opened a whole new studio exculsively for ps3 b/c gta iv was supposed to be exclusive for the ps3. rockstar didnt want to make it for the 360 but sony told them to b/c there wasnt enough install base. so b/c sony made rockstar $50 million, b/c of the downloadable content for thhe 360, sony dosent even have to pay for their downloadable content, so who do u think rockstar prevers, now. in case your wondering i'm telling 100% the truth, if u dont beleive me look it it up, then you'll realise that i'm telling u the truth and rockstar prefers the ps3. one more thing, rockstar said that the pc probably will get gta 4, but in about another year. oh and the ps3 wil get a bundle with a system in about another month or maybe sooner.

1 - yeah forgot that, but thats the PS3's fault as that version was lagging behind, so ill flick a finger at Sony,

2 - didnt realise you were on about the PC version when you said 7 months, itll be more than that im sure.

ROTFL, that's the most retarded shit I've read all week!xD

Anyway, that guy saying retailers are pushing the hell to sell PS3, OFCOURSE they are, its the most EXPENSIVE consoles, which probably means it makes them(the stores) more money, to sell a PS3 than say a 360 premium!

It will be out for PC before Christmas most likely. Porting is not the issue it used to be.

When the PC version comes, will the people who play that be able to play online with Xbox 360 users? That's be awesome.

Very unlikely looking at the way that's been previously. Shadowrun was published by Microsoft.

They most likely will not, because of stuff such as security issues, its the same reason MS refuse to make mods portable from PC to 360 for say, UT3. They fear someone will manage to use it to gain backdoors access to the live network, and probably thus stuff like accounts, passwords etc.

ouch

man pedestrian-cide is going to be awesome

Thats...so awesomely brutal, who wants to help me make a machine that speeds up time or whatever?

I am delighted to let you know that your Preorder for Grand Theft Auto IV is now being processed. The order will be despatched by your chosen delivery method in time to reach you for the day of release.

I came.

So this thread is huge and I'm in class and lazy, but I have some questions:

Will I be able to customize my character in both single/multi-player (think San Andreas) If I want a dew-rag, gold chain, green hair and thong sandals is that possible?

Is the damage/violence model different? If I shoot someone will they act hurt, limp or otherwise notice they've been shot locationally? I have yet to pre-order the game but will be buying it as soon as I get the time/money this summer.

Customization in multiplayer is a yes, but I'm not sure how vast the options are for changing appearance. Trailers indicate that Niko will change clothes throughout the main story, as you can every game, but I think I recall Rockstar saying there wasn't going to be much customization.

I know from pictures that depending on where you are shot, blood and wounds may appear, but I'm not sure how that will affect the gameplay in terms of moving around, etc.

Dispatch estimate for these items: 2 May 2008
1 "Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360)"

Ordered yesterday. :D

Thanks for the fast reply, Antipop. I'm quite looking forward to this game. :)

Make sure you all post impressions instead of addicting all day, I want some reviews!

Does anyone know if it will feature split-screen with-a-friend style multiplayer? And if you can go online together or anything?

Game I guess? They said they were processing GTA4 copies earlier due to heavy demand, will be dispatched on the 28th for next day. :)

I ordered a PS3 + GTA4 bundle, so can't wait. :D

Probably not. Split-screen would rape the framerate.

To add to what TheAntipop said, you will not be allowed to customize Niko in any way apart from his clothing choices, which will be a necessity for some missions. Also, fitness and fatness were removed from GTAIV, so Niko cannot get fat or 'buff'.

As for localized limping etc. Yes, the system uses Euphoria which means the AI will react differently to every situation based on 'personal' experience. It's all procedural, for instance if you punch an NPC in the face, instead of a 'canned' animation of them stumbling backwards (found in other GTA games and games in general), they will react differently, and sometimes may stumble over. This is also true for Niko.

EDIT: ^^ Yeah. That.

I just want to sledgehammer people in the face.

I remember reading a GTA4 review where the reviewer pushed someone out of a window. The person grabbed onto the ledge and tried to get up so it certainly sounds like it looks in the video I posted. ;)

the game looks good and all, but im betting its going to get boring after 23000 hours or so, dont give your hopes up

For those who don't have either a PS3 or 360 and deciding what to get, Best Buy has an ad where if you get any version of GTA IV on the 360 AND an Xbox360 system, then they will give you a $50 gift card.

Offer doesn't apply to PS3 version.

I'm not going to read anymore reviews/previews.

I'm going to spend an entire week as GTA free as possible before receiving it.

IGN has the rest of the MP modes previewed!

No menu! Nice. :) You pop in the game and it puts you straight into your most recent campaign save point.

As stated a million times before, your cell phone "is" your menu. You just bring it up and you have all of your options before you.

Note that you do NOT get the cell phone right off the bat. It will take like 5 minutes or so to acquire it in the campaign I read. Maybe they're wrong and you do have it from the beginning, but it would make sense, though suck for those who don't give a flying **** about MP. That way it guarantees everyone goes through at least the tutorial before going online.

Neat if the case.

In multiplayer, you can use your phone to dial and have private conversations with members of your own team or of the opposing team. So give a call to an enemy -- one who's not too bright -- and act like you are on his team. Who knows, he may just be dumb enough to follow your instructions. And if nothing else, at least you can mock him until he hangs up his phone.

GTA IV is going to freakin' rule the world. Perhaps it will overtake Halo 3 and CoD4 as top Live title. Now THAT will be interesting. :)

Please excuse me for a moment. Orgasm in progress.
