But it works.

When playing online, pick a girly name (but not too girly, otherwise it'll be suspicious.) I noticed from two trips to the same server, you'll always be forgiven for a teamkill with a girly name, but not necessarily so with a guy name. As long as you apologize with something along the lines of "o sry lol" (girls can't type online <--- joke joke, don't kill me).

People also tend to get more impressed. Most of the time they won't even verify your sex so you don't have to make shit up.

you see.. guys dont actually need girls on the internet, because some bright spark guy will go and do it himself..

I've done this and it's true most of the time. People are far more forgiving and friendly if they think you're a chick.

When the Lineage 2 beta came out, I figured I'd be an elf chick for the hell of it. Eventually I grouped up with somebody to kill mobs and he asked "r u rly a girl?". Curious as to how this would turn out, I said yes. Needless to say he was by my side for the rest of my experience. I'd go off and stupidly get killed and then go "lol sry" and he'd always say it's no problem. The guy was literally DEVOTED to me. Then he mentioned the ability to get married in the game in a not-so-subtle hint at me. Then he gave me his e-mail. Then he wanted my e-mail. And I thought to myself "**** this", gave him an old dead hotmail account and never touched the game since.

Later I gave a brief check at my Messenger contact list on that account out of curiosity and, sure enough, he added me. Likewise, I've not touched it since.

Why limit it to teh internets?

There's many a time I've gone out to the pub and spilled a guy's drink.

But as long as I'm dressed as a woman, I get away with it.

Can I have your pic and tell people it's me?

I'm of the firm belief that bliink is actually a guy pretending to be a girl.

I have done this multiple times across a wide range of games. Posing as a female in Diablo 2 and asking "hey can u guys help out a girl new to diablo 2 plz lol" entitled me to many high end items, despite the fact that I was level 1 (but dont worry those items went directly to my level 74 for trading purposes..lol).

Doing it in counter strike and ut 2004 had people constantly following me and trying to take bullets for me so I didnt die. In warcraft 3 and other RTS ensured I was not attacked as much. LOL! Makes me want to go do it right now. So freakin sad some of these people.

You're right. They're the sad ones, not the cybertrannies like you. :|

Hmm, I think you all might be onto something....

I'm gonna check if my voice modifier works in DoD: Source.

If it has a dll hook of any kind, VAC will probably ban you.

I think you're definitely right about females often getting preferential treatment in online games, but to exploit it like some of you are talking about is just disturbing.

Playing World of Warcraft I decided to make a Night Elf female warrior. NOT because I think its "hawt" but because they definitaly have the coolest combat animations out of any character male or female in the entire game. This was just an alt though.

It was just a regular PvP server so I wasn't even pretending to act like a girl but it still wasn't long after questing with some random that he whispers me "are you really a girl?". I have to say after I heard that I began to realize the kind of crap real girls probably have to put up with in online games.

perhaps if people are stupid enough to bodyguard a person in CS they think is female, then they deserve it.

Haha this is so true :p

Girls get the easy way in a lot of these things... They get better deals for trades and get better stuff usually, and a lot of the times the game world is populated by male characters so in MMO's where the economy is run by the players, there usually isn't a whole lot of females, and thus there is a less demand for female body armor parts (and thus as a female, the game is overall cheaper for you)

There are significant disadvantages a lot of you are missing. Once your gender gets out you;

-Are surrounded with clingy guys who want to follow you around the map/game etc
-Attract internet psychos, weirdos, lamers, and really abusive trolls (I've been called an "fat ugly whore" a lesbian, a "dirty bitch" and possibly some other things).
-Receive abuse from people who get so into "not going easy on you" that it gets weird (example from me would be in CS where one guy would repeatedly shoot my dead body after killing me)
-Get grouped with other girls ("Theres 5 of you isn't there?", "the other girls are in xtown", "girls dont really like x" blah blah blah)
-Get this whole human aspect added to a game, ie, you play to escape into a fantasy world or something.. if I'm playing CS, i'm not usually looking for a convo on IRL situations. Suddenly, you're not talking to a fellow counterterrorist but rather, having a conversation with some 16 year old guy from new zealand. (I never let my gender out in online games for this reason).
-Have people who never take you seriously or expect you to be the same as other players
-Have 'help' from other players that annoys you, making you tell them to stop, generating a whole damn conversation
-Are messaged with lame lines
-Get banned because there "are no girls on the internet"
-Realise one day that you dont even exist because so many people keep telling you that. Its hard to be accepted.

And the only time I've ever had my gender exposed was when other hl2.net people were around in a game and they said something, or on this forum here...
it goes on and on, there might be more, or I could be an exception. I dont know.

Basically, a good thing to note is that any "girl" you see in an online FPS game probably isnt, for the reasons illustrated above, you can see why a real girl wouldnt bother.
Yeah, its their own fault if a real girl goes and says anything, but the problem shouldnt be with us to begin with. Its not like people always choose what they're interested in based off their gender.
If you want more females to get into games, then stop creating such a big fuss about it all, stop producing "girls in gaming" news articles, stop visiting or helping all-female clans, stop all-female communities completely because all they do is create a bigger barrier and hype up the whole thing.

Once people get more open minded about it, and put the focus on gaming, where it should be, things will work.

Sure, it might sound like I'm complaining, but I know that I have almost no right to complain because I chose to be in the situation I'm in now, but there are things that are outside my control that influence how things work, so dont go on a "your fault" rampage before you know what you're talking about.

RPGs can be different cases though, theres more of a social component worth engaging in there.

Anyway, the view that girls have it easier than guys is certainly not the case, unless they're willing to act like complete e-whores, and even then they get their share of crap.

Starcraft Ghost features a high-ranked blond girl implying that bliink has had carnal relations with a fat Zerg Overlord.

Oh no I didn't.

Hmmm. That, and you have to deal with periods.

That doesnt come under the "Why its bad to be a female gamer" list though, thats just in the "why its bad to simply be a female" list :p

Ahaha, rofl. Sigg'd.
For a little bit, at least.

Here's something a good deal of you might find amusing.

I was playing TFC many years ago under the name (MW) Spectre

People don't seem to know how to read. I heard myself refered to as, "Spek-tra" over the voice chat by an idiot. Immediatly thereafter, I was asked by four people if I was a girl.

Needless to say, I don't get anymore questions as [BWS - Alamo]
