Oh wow, lowering the void ray to only have 2 damage levels. It probably means a good player will be more likely to micro their void rays to keep them charged up, and means they're slightly less effective against Battlecruisers, especially in the early fight.

And now marauders are less effective early game without their concussive shots.

M&M is such a boring strategy, I'm glad to see it demolished.

Void rays did seem to be a bit cheesy the way they were but then again I wasn't that good at dealing with them.

What? Shit. Anyone who's played Starcraft with me knows that void ray sniping in the main is how I try to end the game in the most annoying way possible. Away with that strategy, I guess!

....You do know that VR's are stronger now, right?

How so? They only have two levels of intensity, unless the damage increase was made to compensate for that. I don't remember what the damage was before the patch :p

Depends what the middle-charge damage was before the patch. The beam still takes the same amount of time to get to full power, so you lose a fair bit of that in-between strength.
Also depends if buildings count as armored, because base damage armor piercing is completely gone. They may do more damage in the long-term, but the few more seconds it takes to charge up to the highest damage (+AP) could be a deciding factor.

I can't believe it but I just got an email letting me know that I got opted into the beta! No more sharing accounts with Xev!
And this latest patch is pretty pimpin.

Buildings are Armored. For what it's used for *Buildings/large units* the damage over time is better.

Void Ray:

* It got a big buff vs light making the unit more versatile.

* Vs armored (eg. buildings) it does less damage to begin with, giving the enemy more time to respond, but is only slightly nerfed once the VR gets going. From a cold start the old VR did 180 dmg to armor after 5 seconds, the new VR does 170.

Good to know guys. I suck at RTS', and will most definitely suck at this, but I really enjoy watching the shoutcasts.

I can't remember if I've already linked Sean 'Day[9]' Plott in here, but just to be safe.

One of the best ways to learn a lot about the game and how to get better. Plus he's hilarious. Me and Xev caught him live last night and it was a good time.

I think this is a great deal. The art book and behind the scenes is enough already, then the comic book, the sound track....:D

Not for me, not when there are expansions to buy as well ...

And don't forget the Mini Thor for Wow. I'd sell that to make up for paying the extra gold to get the CE. That's one thing blizzard is good at. When most CEs are going for $60-$80 theirs go for $100. :|

They make theirs worth it to those that would get it anyway.

While other CE's give you shitty Night Vision goggles and a 10 page booklet with some crappy art, Blizzard is giving us a shit ton.

I can't wait to see that art book.

Hadn't thought of that before. The day I play WoW is the day I tear my eyes out with my own blunt fingernails, but I could sell it to some hapless addiction-addled shell of a former human. You've made me kinda want it now, as that was the only thing really stopping me getting it.

What I said about the mini was mostly speculation. If they do it right it should give you a key for it and hopefully not tying it to your bnet account.
That would be a bad idea in general because many people have multiple accounts and would want to be choosy of which one to activate the pet on. If it indeed turns out to be a key then I will seriously consider the CE.

What do you guys think about the maps? Pretty much like them all, except desert oasis... I just can't find anything positive about. And even more negative things when I started playing more with protoss. Reaper harash is a pain since you get the first stalker like 10-20s too late, well you only loose max like 5 probes but still.

I'm finding the leagues to be pretty damn broken atm. Some one at like 50-80 in Platinum is usually equal to someone in silver top 10. Actually I'm seeing a lot more better players from silver/gold, atleast from my experience :d

I think that the maps are kinda small Hopefully with the content patch this month we'll get new ones.
Desert Oasis isn't that bad actually. Reapers are pretty easy to stop on that map too. One game as zerg I scouted terran and predicted that he would go reapers, so i just put a handful of zerglings on the cliff by my minerals, and sure enough, when they jumped up they got slaughtered. He tried to come up other cliffs but I had more zerglings waiting by then. Totally dominated him that game.
For protoss if you're worried about reapers you could do gate/forge and put a couple of cannons in your mineral line which will repel them until you get stalkers.

As far as matchmaking goes, there are many factors that are in flux that are giving you the feeling that it's not very accurate.
People ranked high in their division would tend to be a bit better than those lowly ranked in a higher division just because you have to play a bunch of games to get to the top.
There are new people coming into the game as well, some of them have a lot of potential but it's easy to get cheesed during placement and get put into a lower division when they should be higher.
Since the game is new people are still learning it and getting better and better, making the skill in divisions out of balance for the time being.
Once the game has been out for some time the matchmaking will start to be more stable and will be better able to match you with people of your own skill.

I wonder if there will be a means to redo your ladder placement. Certainly 5 matches isn't enough to reliably place you.

When the beta first came out it was at 10, and in-game it says there should be. I think they have it at 5 for testing purposes and it will be more on the final release.

* The Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a 176-page book featuring artwork from the game $10, at a reasonable price

* An exclusive 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor's dog tag, which comes preloaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War® expansion set $5

* A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, cinematics with director's commentary, and more $0

* The official StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty soundtrack CD, containing 14 epic tracks from the game along with exclusive bonus tracks $10

* StarCraft comic book issue #0, a prequel to the comic series $5

* A World of Warcraft® mini Thor in-game pet that can be applied to all World of Warcraft characters on a single Battle.net account $0

* Exclusive Battle.net downloadable content, including special portraits for your Battle.net profile, decals to customize your units in-game, and a visually unique version of the terran Thor unit $0

Screw $100.

Lol @ "reasonable price." But with your (reasonable) price values you're only off by $10...

To be fair, the USB key is worth at least $10, seeing as it's been molded/cast/decorated with Starcraft flair.

Don't lie, you'd buy a 2GB USB key for $10 if it was Touhou themed.

Terran are the most volatile romp n' stomp habanero chili boomshakalaka slam dunk descendants from Spartan warriors while drinking blood of roman gladiators bad ass race out there. If you don't play Terran you can never call yourself a real man.

Marines - These bad asses will fight anything. Land, sea, air, bring it the **** on because if they are in range marines will shoot at it. Not to mention the fact that they are such hard bastards they still use shields in an era where intergalactic space travel is possible.

Marauders - Some marine was sitting around one day chomping down on an MRE when his buddy was like, "Hey Magnus (damn straight he has a manly name like Magnus) I think we need a better way to kill things", so Magnus was like "I agree, strap on some rocket ****ing launchers to my arms and I'll start blowing shit up". And he did, and it was good.

Did I mention the fact that marines and marauders are willing to inject themselves with who knows what in order to shoot things faster, at the cost of their own health ! Real men willing to sacrifice

Reapers - These crazy bastards are willing to have giant jets strapped on to their backs so they can jump up and down cliffs. Massive exhaust flames centimeters away from their asses, all while going to fight with nothing more than two hand held pistols and some grenades. JET PACK ON THEIR BACK, WHILE CARRYING GRENADES. When asked about logic reapers were quoted as saying “logic is for casuals”.

Ghosts – If smoking is cool, ghosts go through 4 packs while laying down some love on the Marlboro man’s wife, and mom, at the same time. Remember when EMPs were only available on massive floating science research facilities ? Ghosts were all like “**** that shit, I’ll carry them”. Nuclear Launch Detected: Nothing is manlier than radioactive devastation.

Hellions – One day a couple of Terrans were driving around the desert in dune buggies, and they decided it would be an awesome idea to attach massive flamethrowers to them so they could burn shit to the ground while hitting some massive jumps. Oh are you trying to mine some minerals? *FWOOOOOM* not anymore.

Medivacs – SUCK ON MY GREEN LASER BITCHES WHILE I FLY AROUND CARRYING SOME TANKS DICKFACE !

Siege Tank – Siege tanks are as manly as it gets. Brace for ****ing impact while they blast away at your measly army; and you might think they brace for impact because of the shells they fire off. Little did you know the real reason is to counteract the sheer orgasmic force released when the tank drivers fire off onto the approaching force. Their hardness of their balls is comparable to the surface of a neutron star. Oh yeah…..

Thor – Were you seriously going to question the manliness of a Thor? What is your major malfunction?
rthmo0.jpg

Battlecruisers - Your dad can beat up my dad ? Well Battlecruisers can beat up all dads, everywhere, at the same damn time. They don't need to move fast because they are so damn important people will wait. Sure fire away at me while I charge up my Yamato cannon and BLOW YOU TO SMITHEREENS.

Terrans: Race of the year - All years.

^ Hahahaha, this is why I seem to be the only one on Battle.net with a Terran avatar. Even without Thors, I love the Terran units.

I just picked one randomly. I was just sick of having that generic avatar the whole time.

Man, dunno how the shit I did it, but I am in Platinum 1v1 league.

I'm scared.

Big freakin congrats Pitz! You really are a good player!

I had some pretty big losses today but I learned from them, I'm hoping to join you in Platinum soon! :D

Losing isn't bad. Learning is good ;)

The best thing you can do about your replays is watch them and critique yourself. You won? Congrats, but you did shit wrong....find it and teach yourself how to best it.

Gratz pitz! I'm still hanging on gold, rating going between 1300-1400, maybe one day I'll be a cool platinum like you :'(

Edit: Lol theres a guy in my division with +400 games played. Sick.
