World of Warcraft European Open Public Beta

boo friken hooo and i nearly downlad the first mpq file :p 82% of 665 megs :p
 
I have 15% of the whole thing, but it's taking forever.
 
So then what's the point of the beta? We get to play it free, they get to iron out the bugs? Otherwise it's just the retail game, right?
 
u shodl be able to resume it aslong as it is left int he downlaod manger and not " cleaned up"

i have one mpq yay!

yeah, thats if you want to use a client that sucks majorly. much much better speeds on these.

better yet, they're the .torrents extracted from the blizz client, so you get the blizz tracker, all progress you made so far and the ability to watch the offical clients suffer.

Okey I'm downloading from the site from the first post I quoted, but has anyone allready finished, and knows if it works, and do you need the patch that Switch was talking about.
 
the installer .exe works becuase i have the first mpq and the installer opens ( it doesnt when you dont have the mpq or it isnt in the same folder as the installer)

however i cant tell you if the entire thing works from the ftp till i

A. see if i can use PvtRyans other account he made ( he made 2 )

and

B. finish downloading the files which will be done in a bout an hour

so lets all lobby for PvtRyan to give me his other account username and pass :)
 
Grr, I am not having very good luck at the moment.

Uninstalled the US retail in order to install the EU client from the FTP, then minutes later find out a way to get the US client to work for EU bta on the wow forums, and now the EU client seems to not want to install more than a third, and I cant reinstall the US one as i deleted it for space on another drive :'(
 
Well all finshed, the ftp link worked fine (You do need DirectX folder and its contents btw)

They have made a nice few changes from the US verson (When I played a logn time ago) just small improvements to animations and stuff.. I like it, I plan on buying it when it comes out here.

I wish battlegrounds was in allready though and the pvp reward system, its going to add so much to the game.
 
I'm having troubles with the patch.

The files from the FTP site install the game fine. After filling in my account details it downloads and installs the patch.

Upon restarting the game I get this message:

"Blizzard BNUpdate v2.97 compiled on Oct 27 2004
Log created at 3:33 am on 01/03/2002

ERROR: unable to open patch archive 'C:\Games, Movies, Audio\Games\World of Warcraft\WoW-1.2.2-enGB-patch.exe'
The system cannot find the file specified.

RESULT: Patch failed"

Any suggestions guys? - this is driving me nuts :/
 
Apparently the file that is missing is:

Archive name: WoW-patch.mpq
File name: patch.lst

wtf? :/
 
Well i'm installing right now... taken about 10 mins so far. Lets hope it bloomin' works.
 
So you downloaded the files from the ftp site instaleld them, patched them with the patch that switch posted 1.2.0,and then it downloaded it's own patch the 1.2.2, but now you still missing a file, right.
Hmm I hope it doesn't happen to me, I'm downloading the 1.2.2 patch now via the blizzard toreent, cause it is not on the ftp site.
 
How many GB does this take up after installation? I'm starting to run low on space.

Don't make me delete my porn folder. Damn you WoW!

EDIT: Install's almost finished. Someone tell me exactly what I need to do, with regard to patches, to get this to work. I really don't want this to **** up.

That's what happened.

Everything was fine untill I finished downloading the 1.2.2 patch.

The patch is on my pc, but it won't install due to this:

Archive name: WoW-patch.mpq
File name: patch.lst

being missing :/

Let me know if yiu have better luck pls.
 
I'm glad I'm playing it safe with the Blizzard downloader. Should be done in the morning. :)

I hope it does.

After installing the files I ran the Blizzard downloader - it checked the files and said everything was 100% downloaded. The main files also install fine and prompt me to enter account details - which also works fine.

It's only upon trying to install the patch that things get screwed :/
 
Guys, don't use any patch to get it to 1.2.0, who told you to do that?

Get it from the FTP (1.1.2 ?), then run the game, it'll make you download the 1.2.2 automatically, and it works fine. I'm choosing my realm right now.

I'll join realm EN Final Beta 16 (top of the list). Normal, not PVP or RP.

I've done that twice aswell - with the same result :/
 
Thats just bad luck warbie, with me it also works. Goddammit, you beter post on the Wow forums to find our more.

If you don't come alliance on PVP 7 you'll never see my ninja - skillz or dedalus' 1337 mount :(

Just to say, the accounts should work when you use them on the client regardless of what response you got from the blizzard site.

My friend joined that server - and I couldn't leave him on his lonesome. Plus we decided to be Alliance for the retail version - so will check out the Horde in the Beta.

(Can I make another character and join pvp 7?)

Let me know where you guys end up when the games released. I warn you, though, I intend to get all beardy and join a roleplay server \o/
 
hehe :)

You can have as much as eight characters on each server, but if it's a PVP server those 8 characters have to all be on the same side- e.g. all alliance.

oh and we're gonna be horde in retail (because alliance are boring :p ), but you can always make a secondary character with us :)
 
I've just had a quick whirl of it, I must say, it's really easy to get into. Usually with MMORPG's you've gotta spend a while learning how everything works, but with WoW you can jump straight in with a simple and easy to use interface.

One of the reasons I love it, three main reasons why I think WoW is so great

- What you said, easy to get into, but still has alot of content
- Interesting quests
- Great pvp with meaning to it (At least when battlegrounds and pvp reward is added)
 
gah, I managed to get in once but now my user-name and password don't work!
 
So then, definitely worth my $$$? I've been considering this for a while and broadband gets hooked up on Tuesday...
 
What did you all go? I went a human Paladin. They're pretty cool since they have healing spells that you can use after every fight. I'm around lvl 6 now. Kind of annoying how all the male models are huge butch guys. I was contemplating going female because of that.

Another annoying thing is trying to run away from a fight. It's sometimes impossible because of the lag. They hit you when they're at least 10 meters behind.

I'll probably buy this when it comes out.
 
Not got any lag at all..

I've tried every class/race, Im for certain going to go night elf warrior. They just look so kick ass when useing 2handed swords. My first alt.. human or orc mage. One on a pvp server and one on an RP server.

edit: Bad hat, Wow is awesome, buy it and come play with me when it comes out.
