Is it be possible that he misread or misheard "gold" for "grand" ?
It also sounds like it was VU (Vivendi Universal) that told him, since he mentions VU lingo.
hmm, as much as I am simulataineously preparing for this to be fake and a let down, I really hope it is true of course.
:hmph:
If this news if fake, then what I'm about to post will be another crushing blow to us all.
"Gold Master" isn't a new term.
In this article:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2001/mar/07macosx_gm.html
Gold Master referred to the final, feature complete Mac OSX CD.
Now the article is from...
I liked the older box too, but I'm just happy to see any preparation for the game's launch at all.
I'd play the game no matter what's on the cover, even if it had a picture of Tony Little.
reap, the HL2 SDK won't have it's own C++ editor, you'll need Visual C++ 6 to use it's project files.
Good C++ tutorial:

Hey Reap,
The Half-Life2 SDK will definately use the Visual C++ 6 project file format.
Dev-C++ will be great to learn the language on, at least for some console apps.
I recommend: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/
A port of the SDK to Dev-C++ may be possible in the future, but...
I am going to make a sandwhich and draw the Half life logo with mustard. Then pour a glass of milk. After eating, and once the game is installed (hopefully < 3 CDs!). I will play it a lot.
that was kind of mean of them to use the same old photos on that early page preview.. ah well i guess they're just sticking to the rule of nothing truly new until E3..
;( ........ :p
It's really not fair to compare a slickly edited video with tons of action scenes 1 after the other, to a real plugged in running demo of the game walking through levels.
The difference is that id software played through the game a bit to some action sequences (some perhaps were scripted) and...
Don't judge Steam based on it's performance or stability just after an upgrade. By this weekend at the latest it should be fine, although for me and probably most other users it's already working fine.
Maybe I've been lucky but I haven't had a lot of problems or crashes with Steam, at least...
@ Mountain Man:
I think the bugs and problems that they are facing with Steam are there and will probably continue to come up because they are working on something that is cutting-edge and hasn't really been done before.
But this is the sort of thing that Valve is known to do, and is what...
It'd be nice to be see some new HL2 videos on steam when it comes back up, but then again that goes against what they said about keeping quiet until e3, so I guess not. :)
