I think aslong as you have some sort of cooling for your hd's, maybe a fan in a drivebay that will blow air across them or something then you should be fine. I mean you could get one of those special hd coolers (http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english/spec_page/system_coolers/spec_ak_hd_bl.htm) but...
I think that soft shadows have a huge effect on your fps. Could maybe try turning everything off, and putting all settings to teh lowest and then try upping them slowely until it looks good and plays nice and smooth.
you tried a complete uninstall and then a re-install? Also check you don't have an older version installed, maybe a trial version before you bought/acquired the full version.
I've heard this also, I think its on certain models where the fan isn't quite beefy enough to cope with teh heat produced. I fitted the arctic cooler vga silencer and never looked back. They are so cheap now and pretty easy to fit, you can't go wrong!
I'd agree with you on the overheating. Check to see if there is any dust buildup around the fan on your cpu and your gfx card. Also check for any fallen wires that are obstructing the airflow to either cpu of gfx card.
I'd say that an extra gig of ram would help, but i'm not sure if it would produce a big difference in games as yoru gfx card may be holding you back, even overclocked like it is, but i'm not too sure
Think the psu will do it ;) I'm so jealous! Totally wanna get myself a 7800gtx single card, new psu and new asus mobo like the one you have, can't really afford an sli setup but the single card would be good for a year or 2 right?
Your pc is going to fly through any game you throw at it! Just a thought, do you have a beefy enough psu to support your new cards and also is your case cooling upto the extra heat that will come from the cards?
If it doesn't post with the new psu then it will probably be either the mobo or the cpu. Its quite tricky to test a mobo as the cpu could be the faulty componant and you may not want to put a perfectly good cpu into a potentially broken motherboard, which could damage it.
I thought that I read on here that yuo tested the psu in another pc? Oh well, that would explain how the light on the mobo lights up but it doesn't start. Hmm I would have thought that the psu would have been one of the first things taht you should of tested. Doesn't matter though, at least you...
There are drives out there that get pretty close to WD Raptors when it comes to performance. Obviously they won't be as fast, but they are pretty good. You should try and check out some reviews as you get a very good compremise between capacity and speed.
Do you have a pentium 4 with hyper...
I'm not totally sure about this, but you should make sure that your HP pc doesn't use a custom power supply like Dell pc's do, as you might have a job finding another one to replace it if its a custom design. Other than that, don't go for cheap powersupplys as it could be a very expensive...
Yeh thats what I thought. Dunno what to suggest really. Have you tried updating your bios, if you havent, then check out what is sorted by updating the bios because if its got nothing to do wtih memory then don't do it as a bios upgrade imo should be a last resort to a problem.
thirded. I can only really say if you can try the mobo with another cpu that you know works, although, teh mobo could damage a working cpu. hmm is the mobo still under warrenty?
Not too sure, but you should justhave a look in the bios to see what there is. Not even sure there is an option to do so, think its upto the memory controller but i'm not too sure. Worth a look though.
