i was thinking of making a tutorial too. what kinds of guns havnt been done before that arnt fugly or too complicated ?
*edit* just thought of it, a Remington 870 shotty...i need to do one of them for my mod, and its not too complicated  ill do another thats more complicated if i...
hehe, theyre not a bitch. thats the whole point of the GMax product. i doubt youll find a plugin to export it to .3ds, as if there is one, its kinda illegal. GMax is supposed to be a test of Max, that is still useful when it comes to certain games ( the companys which pay the money to have...
no Fen, hes saying it takes a long time to make a detailed high poly model and then normal map it onto the low poly one. and then even longer to do that for a whole set of player models. not that hes trying to rush the mod half unfinished to be the first released mod.
'mods are not using the full potential of the engine ie: normal mapping , specular maps , bump mapping.'
have you ever tried making normal maps ? it takes a lot of patience and time, and as you said, some of the model may be tweaked and possibly re-made, in which case, normal maps would have...
you dont need any of that special stuff. just use a skylight ( if using Max ) right above the model, then add a directional or omni light from another angle to give it a better look. very simple, and effective :p
PS. play around with the settings ( colours, multipliers, shadows, angles etc )...
yeah, its come a long way, but theres no real need in putting those little dents in the fron of the trigger guard, but meh...doesnt matter. yes, it is a good model for someone whos been modelling for 4 months, although a wireframe might make me change my mind :p. looks like this is gonna get...
when you looks at it, it doesnt look to me like id want to hold it. looks like itd...bite my hand off. the back of the grip is way too square, you should have atleast 4 sections in there, and smooth it off ! im not an expert on the shape of glocks, but to me it seems too thin, i dunno. the...
the reason the models have so much detail on the top areas, is cause theres none around the wheels or tracks. look at the wheels on the BMP, they're all 8 sided.
very nice models, especially with the people, although their clothes dont really shout cloth. very very impressive skinning there.
looks like it could do with a bit more work and more polys. having a few more angles, less blurry renders, fewer smoothing errors and a wireframe would make it easier to crit.
yea, it does look very nice. the thing i noticed straight away was the shape of his head...it seems very square at the back and kinda 'edgy'. the ripples in his sleeves and general form of his clothes is very good, you must have a good sense of form...*sigh* unlike me. other thing i noticed was...
Sidewinder, ive seen Max 6 Student version ( 2 Years ) here in the UK for only £90, thats about $135-$145 for you yanky doodles. im thinking of getting it for the next to years until i go to uni.
yea man, youve got the shape all wrong, and your mesh doesnt look too clean. it depends what youre going for, the xp or trying to recreate the uzi as well as possible. get some good reference pictures before you start, you can never have too many, even have 4 from the same angle. one migh show...
i just taught myself how to do it that way. i dont actually lay it out in the viewport, just detach and re-attach parts or verts to get the best results when you use the unfold option in the unwrapper. saves you a load of hassle, i like it especially as you dont have to do much work in that...
generally, its quite a nice model and skin ( although photoskins ). yes, the hands are too flat, and theres a lot of unecessary detail on his ear, which acutally detracts from the rest of the good parts ( and uses up polies ). you could use a good photoskin like you have done for the face and...
depends on the way you do it. i detach all the main sections, and then lay them out flat, or unfold them. so id detach the top and sides of the slide, and then the end pieces. then attach the end pieces, but only weld a few verts so that it unfolds correctly.
...if that makes sense
