I am a meanie, yes :p

No to flashbacks!!

Yes is winning the polls, i too would be exceedingly happy if it did, (me and obviously a lot of people) but i cant see valve bothering to look at what the people want they are busy with HL2 aftermath, or is it already complete?

*Notorious BIG, Going Back to Cali tune* Gordon is going going, back back, to Mesa Mesa... :bounce: :rolling:

If we're gunna have songs about it their gunna be to the tune of 'We're goin' to Barbados'!
"Wow, we're goin' to Black mesa.
Wow, back to the Reactor.
Wow, back to the head crabs.
Wow, back to the pure raidoactive goo...."

any way were not goin back, cos black mesa was taken out not with a nuke but with a thermo nuke. And thermo nukes dont leave stuff behind. its gone. It went in one big BOOM acompanied by several smaller BOOMs. We're never, ever goin back. exept mayb with that cross dimential idea from earlier. But even then it's gunna need some serious explanation/justification.

there was only 1 nuke and also since when was it a thermo nuke??

It's a really big bomb. It's underground. If Laidlaw gave Gearbox the go-ahead on blowing the place up, it's because HE'S CONTENT THAT HE NEVER WANTS US TO REVISIT IT!

It had 'Tactical Thermonuclear Warhead' written on it. :upstare:

That surely can't mean its a...TACTICAL THERMONUCLEAR WARHEAD can it!? :rolling:

i think if we absolutely have to go back to BM.. then it wouldn't be in an expansion pack.. it will be in the third game..

Its a Thermonuke because its a multi megaton weapon that isnt ludicrusly huge. To get a 5 megaton yeild with a convential A-bomb it would need to be huge. The largest, most powerful A-bomb ever tested was only a 700 kiloton weapon. There fore It must be a Thermonuke (AKA H-bomb). and the fact that it has 'Tactical Thermonuclear Warhead' written on the side is also a bit of a give away.

Screw Black Mesa, I want to see Gordon go on to bigger and better things. Like an intergalatic battle, EPIC style!. I want to see how it ends, not endless repetition. I think seeing BM as a flashback (playing in the background) would be alright. If, maybe at the end of the series, Valve can to it TACTFULLY the player going to Black Mesa, time travel, whatever, but I don't want to see BM (except flashbacks) in HL3, I want something new. Its all about tact, Valve has alot of it, we'll see if they can pull it off in the future.

I still think it would be nice to have a brief glimpse of Surface Tension's cliff face again, even if it is smushed up :(

yeh i agree with Barney, and 2 things: Rezdude, about a MILLION people have said that.
And sulkdodds, you play a game and notice that kind of thing at that pont alll i was doing was killing guys not reading squat, if you want to do that get a book like the HL2 guide.

That has to be the most lamest thing I've heard all goddam week. :|

Yeah? If all you're interested in is killing guys, you're not really appreciating HL to its fullest. Weak comeback, dumbass.

And you have the press a button on the nuke to disarm it. I mean the big letters saying 'Tactical Thermonuclear Warhead' are right in front of your face. and there are no guys to kill. Kind of hard not to notice....

su. i didn't realize that you by a game to find out what type of nukes are used in it, and the purpose of Half-life is to survive not to increase your knowledge of scientific weaponry. Trust me, its weird to buy a game and read that kind of thing. and if it was bang in your face, i can understand. but i haven't playd opfor for a bit. but if it isn't in your face then it is a bit wierd.

It is in your face.

I wouldn't bother arguing this further (it's a pretty stupid argument...why are we arguing about what kind of nuke it is?)...except...

'Weird'? Do shut up. It's a game, I can do what the hell I want. 'Trust you'. So I'm weird if I bother to look with interest upon the hundreds of little clues tucked into the game? The gameworld is there to be ****ing looked at, and the purpose of Half-Life is to be immersed in the gameworld.

But let's argue about something else. This is silly.

Back with the topic, guys...

Bullsquids did not eat radiation, they lived in radioactive areas like pigs in mud. Pigs don't eat muds and spit it at you, do they? They lived among radioactive wastes because they had something in common - they're saliva is dangerous to a human being.

How fun a game/expansion pack would be, walking in black non-lit maze (the blast probably shook the BM greatly, thus you'll be walking through debris, and most paths would be blocked), fighting ONLY bullsquids now and then, running from one shelter to another as your health drops because of the radioactivity... Oh goody.

You have already visited Black Mesa. In Half-Life 2. Can't remember? Oh surely you do. Remember when Lamarr, pet of Dr. Kleiner, hopped on you thus disrupting the teleportation process? And then, you surely remember appearing in a desert, with ruins. That's your Black Mesa. Happy now?

Thats not Black mesa. Thats wasteland, pretty much what the rest of the planet looks like.

And how do you know may I ask? When the teleport exploded in Nova Prospekt you traveled in time. Same could've happened there. A headcrab jumped into the teleport, disrupting the process and you've traveled through time... A bit. After all, you've been to a lake where that huge creature from HL1 can be seen... But we didn't seen it throuhout the game, though we COULD have fought against it, the model's there, water's there... But it's not.

I suppose that view is either of the past...Or what happened after the Citadel exploded. Hence the newspaper in Eli's lab... Self-explanatory. Not a wasteland.

Valve won't introduce time travel, its an awful idea...the way they implemented the passing of a week however, was done properly. You just stayed out of the loop for abit as it went forward.

The ichthyosaur is in HL2, the lake you were taken to was somewhere on earth. The idea of the teleporter sequence, was also to show you the outside world.

Its not forward in time either, since you went back to klieners. It is, afterall, a teleporter.

The newspaper in Elis lab explains what has happened before hand, the 7-hour war etc, to show how the combine came to earth.

That desert was wasteland. Have you read raising the bar?

I’m not following you… could you elaborate please? It’s not self explanatory to me I guess. Sorry.

I didn't say Valve *will* introduce time-traveling... It'd suck no doubt and I didn't even get my hands near HL3. But by the looks from HL1 and 2, Valve likes throwing hints at players. Since Gordon doesn't speak at all, it's quite hard to make out the story, and other people (Alyx, Kleiner, etc.) don't have time to explain as well, and besides, the game would lose it's charm if you'd stand 5 minutes listening what happened to Earth...

You did time travel with a teleporter. That's a fact. And in the beginning, you were being thrown around the world, back and forth. Why wouldn't you have been thrown back for a while? It's my opinion, I may be wrong.

The newspapers did say that Combine won a 7 hour war. Meaning they won easily. Without using nukes or anything alike. From where did the wasteland come?

Uhm, I thought it was just a random wasteland (as much of the countryside is, I assume). I thought you were being metaphorical: "see that? See the desolation? THAT'S Black Mesa!" Like snapping a broom handle in half and saying "That's gonna be your leg, bitch".

I thought the wasteland was from the combine strip-mining the planet... They could be terraforming it too...

Yes, finally. And I still am.

A random wasteland. Nothing more...

I simply wanted to show what BM would look like if we are to play in it. And Samon ruined it, so I tried to bring it back up with stupid arguments. :)
