You did time travel with a teleporter. That's a fact. And in the beginning, you were being thrown around the world, back and forth. Why wouldn't you have been thrown back for a while? It's my opinion, I may be wrong.

Because going back is time travel. Its a teleporter going haywire, and ultimately your just going from one spot to another.

The newspapers did say that Combine won a 7 hour war. Meaning they won easily. Without using nukes or anything alike. From where did the wasteland come?

There are only about 30 combine cities, surrounded by barriers across the world, connected by train tracks. The rest of the planet is inhabited by aliens from the portal storms, xen wildlife etc and they've inhabited it for years, wasting it away. The coast is a good example of wasteland.

They could be terraforming it too...

This isn't a criticism, but that amused me. "Terraforming earth" isn't something you can do. I'll leave you to figure out why... ;)

I thought about that before I posted but couldn’t think of another word to use.

Is This Tea meant that they are nuking (or using that "laser" thing dropping down from the sky) everything to turn unused cities into wastelands. He couldn't find a more suitable word. ;)

Oh. I thought he meant that the Combine were going to turn Earth into a world more suitable for them - just like we might terraform a foreign planet to have a breathable atmosphere and okay climate.

Yes, that's what he ment, it's just me - making another lame joke..

Anyways, I doubt that the sight of that desert was the result of Combine terraforming it... Earth is already suitable for them. They didn't terraform City 17, though it's where all the bad guys were at (The Citadel). I think it's simply a wasteland with portal storms and a few aliens and birds, as Samon has already mentioned.

For those still confused (Sulkdodds?), I was being pedantic - Terraforming means 'to make in the form of Earth', in the context of adapting other planets to be like Earth, suitable for people to live on. But Earth is already in the form of Earth, so ya can't terraform it. You can, uhhh Combineify it I guess.

That’s exactly why I decided to go with Terraform... Nobody would have known what the hell I was talking about.

someone said that earth was already suitable for combine. It's not, unless i'm proven wrong i seem to remember the combine wearing GAS-masks!!! Meaning that they cannot breathe on earth. The masks may only be to protect them from headcrabs but there are none in the city. except for about 5.

Remember the fact that the Metrocops are HUMAN! And the soldiers were human to begin with! Yeah!

There ain't no combine on Earth kid.

The Combine are just modified humans - of course they can breathe air. The reasons they wear gasmasks are as follows:

- It's durned imtimidating and de-humanises the Combine soldiers, making for a big scare factor. Lots of special forces groups (eg the SAS) wear gas masks for these reasons - it makes you look like a scary alien robot or something.

- They don't need to bother worrying about poison gas, effects of smoke grenades, etc.

- The Combine often use headcrab bombs on their enemies so it would make sense for them to wear gasmasks to protect themselves from such things.

The marines in Half-Life 1 wore gasmasks - doesn't mean that they can't breathe air. :upstare:

'Nuff said. Only I'd like to add that there is Combine on Earth. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't striders, gunships, dropships, etc. the Combine?

Yes they are..........
the Combine is using the human race against the human race itself........
kind of ironic...... but as you saw in the Citadel.........there are alien forms of combine also

Gunships, dropships and striders are aliens. They're alive. Quote from what Colonel Cubbage said about shooting down a gunship:

"You'll only anger it first". You can anger a pilot, but not the 'thing' itself. ;) Same goes for dropships.

A dying strider emits a weird rant-like sound. Not to mention that they're rather smart, and I doubt a pilot or anyone else would fit in the small strider head.

Stalkers are humans, too, uglified, but humans, nontheless. Quote from one of my squad members: "They're not making a Stalker out of me."

P.S. I'm just showing off my intelligence. :p

No they are not Combine, they are Synth, self replicating robots augmented into the combine overwatch during the combines wars and conquests, another alien race heavily implanted with combine tech.

Its called biomechanical

Yeah, freaks, so to say. That's exactly what I ment to say.

Synth? Who the hell are Synths? In Half-Life 2 I didn't hear anybody mention Synths... Then there's another question... Who's the Combine? You got me totally confused *runs off to play HL2 all over*

Yeah, exactly what I thought. Why couldn't it be something with arms and legs? And with a blue suit... And a briefcase...

Soo... Something tells me I'm going to have to replay HL1 because HL2 didn't say a word about Synths. Let's see, last time I played HL1 was...Two years ago?

You could read about the Synths in the Half-Life 2: Strategy Guide.

You can read up on Synths in raising the bar and the hl2 walkthrough

Because of my love of the art direction in this game…
Here she blows:

When approaching the task of designing the Combine’s larger creatures, it was necessary to keep in mind that these lumbering war machines were once organic creatures that the Combine had enslaved and converted during previous invasions. Therefore we tried to incorporate elements that were neither strictly organic nor purely mechanical. We didn’t want to have giant alien creatures with armor attached or implants added, but instead tried to treat it as a forceful evolution of the characters imposed by the combine rather then nature. In the end, the designs intentionally blurred the line between machines and animal, in their appearance and more importantly their motion and how they reacted to the world around them.

I dunna know. Just got raising the bar a week or two ago. Striders, Gunships and other non-human derived equipment (APC's are human derived) that we see in HL2 are part of the combine overwatch. They're just security. Actual combine military forces are more dynamic most likely, and if I remember right, are referred to as "the horde". Why? Because theres a crapload of enemies to fight in a combine invasion force. My opinion is that the combine are far better defended.

Or maybe.. HL3 can take it Back to the future style and you will travel BACK in time and stop the old gordan to ever get involved with anything. Probably when he is a baby.

NO

Time travel sucks, and that would be crap.

No! There's something wrong with the flux capacitor! It's not-it's not shutting down! It's not....Aiiiiieee!

And we really dont need a terminator impersonation in HL. I agree with samon

The combine are actually human and combine DNA mixed. So there is some combine related people on earth. Also the big sluggy things are PURE combine but they're not on earth. I think Ninhilath was one (clue: pink/white body, metal implants....)

Errrr, no. What would be the point of mixing human and Combine? The synth don't have Combine DNA: they're biomechanical, literally mechanisms made out of organic material (think DNA computing and so forth). It's a lot more complicated than mixing in Combine DNA: the soldiers have implants that were made by the Combine, and may be biomechanical using Combine biologics, but...well, basically they're not Combine any more than a man with a transplanted pig's heart is a pig.

And Niilanth didn't really look anything like a Combine - he looked more like a cobbled-together hybrid of vort genii held together with shiny metal bits.

It has crap all to do with DNA. The soldiers only have combine technology fused with them, not DNA.

Nihilanth was NOT Combine. Futhermore, he had no frigging metal implants, and his body wasn't pink/white.

As for the Combine Soldiers, they are biologically and technically 'enhanced' humans, their DNA wasn't altered. My guess is they're simply been buffed by chemicals and equipped/suitted with Combine technology. Changing one's DNA is impossible, both theoretically and practically. Even in Half-Life's world.

I think you all heard of bulletproof stuff right? So why shouldn't in deep underground (2874m)be a top secret area or lab whatewer near BM, that it will be wallproof to nuclear explosions. We all know those nuclearshelters things that exsist. So as said before there would be a classified facility with high-tech stuff. Our mission will be some sort of gathering information. So in one of previus chapters Gordon get's this information somehow. Well in that classified sub-facility are leading people of BlackOps and them as well.

(edit) This would be only one chapter or something

Dunno just a thought ;)

I think you all heard of bulletproof stuff right?

What, like 50 cent?

Seriously, there is no material that can withstand a nuclear blast unless it's REALLY thick. Nuclear shelters give shelter because A. They have very thick concrete walls and B. They are UNDERGROUND. Most so-called 'shelters' would collapse if a nuke actually hit within five miles of them. And they would certainly be destroyed if a nuke went of inside them. :upstare:

Turning on every light in a dark black mesa doesnt sound like it could be made into a FULL game, maybe a single player mod/episode.

And what would you do? Fight radioactive air? Swing your crowbar around? What would you do? You wouldn't survive. Period. Black Mesa is gone forever. There will be no expansion packs or mods, official to say the least, which will include Black Mesa. It has been nuked and forgotten by everyone.
