Doctor Who: Season 4

True. I once accidently turned on the Welsh channel on Sky and my ears started bleeding before I could change it. I don't know why they created that abomination. Perhaps we can ask Samon when his shift in the Pot Noodle mine finishes.

So... Tennant or Ecclestone? 9th or 10th?

Oh Eccleston easy. Nothing against Tennant (okay, a few things actually, but he's very good after season 2) but he does try too hard to be like Tom Baker and other previous incarnations of the Doctor, whereas Eccleston did his own thing, and was unlike any other Doctor. Respect for that. And it just so happened that his Doctor was also awesome, and the stories of season one considerably better than season 2.

Eccleston. Eccleston did things that no other doctor did before him. Shame he left.

Tennant, no doubt, been watching the series one box set, and he wasn't as good as I remember him being in the role, maybe because I've been spoiled by Tennants different range of emotions he can display.

After watching series one, Eccelstons attempts at wackyness are pretty crudy compared to Tennants.

For me it's Eccleston. He was a far more original Doctor than Tennant - though I do like both.
Also: "Fantastic" > "What!?"/"Wellllll..."

I wish Eccleston had had Season 3's episodes.

In my own personal fanon, Rose hid the words Blaidd Drwg from the TARDIS translation circuit purposefully so that Rose and the Doctor would question what it said.

I think Welsh not being a real language makes more sense. What's the point in the Doctor questioning it? Whether he reads it himself or has it translated he still finds out what it means, the only difference is a few seconds.

Getting back to the whole Eccleston vs Tennant, I'll have to go with Tennant. His seasons have just been great, but to be fair to the ninth I feel the writers only really started getting into the groove AFTER they hired Tennant. Much of season one felt messy and uncoordinated.

I also like it when Tennent gets pissed off, the intensity in his face is brilliant.

My fault with Tennant is that I find him far too upbeat and kindly, in such a way that the kids and parents that watch the show are bowled over by his cuddly loving heart and childish charm oh giggle giggle giggle he so hawt! <3

I preferred Eccleston as he seemed a lot more stern and serious, but his charm seemed just about right. I can't take Tennant serious simply because everything seems a LOL LOL LOL joke that - usually apart from the last episodes of a season - he always seems to never take too seriously.

I don't know, I just honestly can't really stand the guy. These days I'm only enjoying Doctor Who for the old monsters they bring back in (Sontarens, Davros, the Daleks before they could fly (read: fly, not levitate as I didn't mind that)) and the occasional good writing (Blink, most Moffat episides)

Yeah, his turns in "Family Of Blood", "Doomsday", the end of "The Doctors Daughter", "The Runaway Bride", "Forest Of The Dead", "Fires Of Pompeii", "Midnight" and "42" amongst others, with only one of the ones suggested being a last episode, were Lols a minute.

It's one thing not to like his portrayal, but never accuse tennent of only ever acting a fool, his range of emotions he can convincingly display, I feel, are for more eclectic than Eccelston was, who I still feel was good, he just had two emotional states, angry or wacky. His anger was good, his wackyness left something to be desired I feel.

He was the right choice to revive the franchise though, but Tennant has had more influence in making Dr Who the success it has become.

Then again, all just my opinion, which doesn't make it right :D

Hard to choose. They each do certain aspects better than others. Eccleston was much better at being angry, sarcastic, dark and condesending. I can't imagine Tennant doing "Maybe we are the same. Yeah. Because I know what I should do to you. I know what should happen. Ex-ter-min-ate." (Don't remember the exact quote, I think it was something like that, but I do remember that it sent a shiver down my spine) and (Talking to baby Rose) "Now Rose, you're not going to bring about the end of the world, are you? Are you?" as well as Eccleston.

Tennant is much better at being the goofy, interested achademic Doctor, but he is also capable of acting very seriously. TBH I think some scripts suit or would have suited Eccleston better and some Tennant better. It's rather hard to pick a favourite. I suppose Eccleston because he's better at the darker and more serious stuff, but if they had kept him the show might have gotten much darker and a tad depressing.

No, Tennant is a good actor, just one I don't like and can't stand. It's his approach to Doctor Who, accompanied by a terrible art lead and some bad script writing, that I find has put me off the show ever since he stepped in. I found the latter two apparent in the Ninth Doctors series, too, but like I said, I didn't mind Eccelston.

I have trouble taking Tennants serious-ness seriously, though, simply because it feels so crowbarred in to try and make it look like he does have a serious side. I don't know, it is my own opinion and preference after all, I just can't place him at all.

Basically, Tennant plays the doctor as a manic depressive on speed. Which isn't his fault, it's how the doctor's being written most of the time, and for me it just doesn't work for the same reasons TheAntiPop said. He's a great actor and he can show all those emotions very well, but when he follows playing very cheerful up with playing very sombre, it completely fails. Eccleston's Doctor hid his wacky side behind a more serious one, whereas Tennant does the opposite, which doesn't really work that well imo. As usual with the new Dr Who, I choose to blame the writers (Moffat excluded). But I completely agree that Tennant can act very well, there's especially a bit in the first part of the Master's return when he runs into the room with the TARDIS in and tries to open it, when he fails he starts shouting, pleading with the master- At that moment he really comes off as absolutely desperate, not only to stop the master but also out of fear that he'll leave him alone again. The entire bit from the moment the Face of Boe- flashback reveals it's the Master is good, but that little bit, to me, is brilliant, and a testament to Tennant's acting.

...but he still will never beat Eccleston in Dalek. "WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE?!"

I liked Tennant in season 2
but i really wish Eccleston has season three's episodes

I must be the only on one on these boards that is not keen on Eccelstons attempts at anger, and although at the time, I thought he was amazing, after Tennant showed how these things should be done, I'm glad Eccelston decided to leave.

Tennant>Eccleston. David Tennant is third in my all-time favourite actors list (first being Johnny Depp, second being Bill Nighy) anyway, but I really do think he is a bit better than Christopher Eccleston. And as for him being "far too upbeat and kindly" that is just not true!!! When he gets angry you really don't wanna be the person he's mad at!! He seems pretty terrifying when he's pissed off!!!! The good thing about Tennant is that he's completely capable of acting out any emotion for the Doctor brilliantly.
If I'd put more thought into it I'd probably would've been able to come up with better reply, but I'm hungry, that's my excuse!!!! :cheese:

It's hard to take them all serious when they're acting so shocked about an enemy that has appeared in three out of the four seasons so far. WHAT ARE THESE STRANGE WHEELED METAL DEMONS?

Nah, I kid. Enough bitching from me (until tomorrow night!), I'm actually pretty excited for tomorrows episode.

It's not that they are shocked, it's more to do with the fact they realise that they have no way of defeating a force of them that big.

Another clip, MASSIVE MASSIVE REALLY BIG SPOILERS

Don't say I didn't warn you

No matter, the Daleks won't win, unfortuantly.

I cannot take the Daleks serious when they're hovering and flying around. I laughed hard when they first started doing it and I'm lol'ing again at them now. That clip was going so well, too.

/bitter mode

EDIT I JUST CAN'T STOP: Also, Supreme Dalek should still be black, not red. Fail. ):<

They're honestly overusing the daleks. 3/4 of the new seasons have them in the finale? Plus 3/4 have them appearing mid-season(ish) too.

Only 2 out of 4 have them mid-season.

I don't think they've been overused yet. None in the Specials now and I'll be hankering for them again come Series 5.

Rumours as to what will appear in the specials:

Christmas 2008: Cybermen (Confirmed)
1st Special: Sea Devils
2nd Special: Paul McGann in either a multi-Doctor story or a flashback to the Time War
3rd Special: The Master!
Christmas 2009: Unknown

Awesome. :E

I did NOT see that coming, holy hell!

could the presence of his hand somehow affect the regeneration, "lock" him to this form perhaps? There must be some reason it's still around

omg!!!!!! New Doctor???????

admittedly considering the davros thing was leaked so early I can't possibly imagine how a new doctor wouldn't be leaked..

Anyway great episode although a bit cheesy in parts

That should be in spoilers dude, come on be considerate.

Rose has just become more and more annoying as time has gone by. Even the way she speaks (mumble mumble lithp) annoys me now. Martha's best of the news ones easily, unless you count Jack.

whoops didn't realise from the excitement :p

also did anyone else whout what the **** at that ridiculously OTT to be continued screen? o_O

OH. MY. GOD. I really don't think there's any more I can say.
Reg, do you know if David Tennant is leaving? I've been reading Doctor Who Magazine since the series started and I would've read about him leaving if it were true.

I'm sure my thought above (in the tags) must be right, there's no way they could have kept this quiet!

Though maybe that's just wishful thinking, being scared of 'change' ;)

It might be, it does seem to be the attention of a shot during the show.

HOT DAVROS WEBCAM ACTION

Also, I was hoping something horrible would happen in that oh so cheesy run, but, I didn't want that to happen :(

I didn't want anything to happen at that point, but I thought something might. And I definitely didn't want
the Doctor to nearly die
to happen! :( ;(

This is the pretty much taken as fact - truth about what happened at the end.

The doctor bodges his regeneration and two Tennants are created

From all the people in the know on the Who forums who have not yet been wrong.

Oh. by the way....what a ****in immense episode! best of new who yet.

I disagree Stemot, it's good, but not as good as the Master's episodes.
