S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Stories

you have to get the psi-emission from the scientist. I'm assuming you haven't started lab x16 mission?

Yeah, do the main missions until you get a "prototype psi helmet" or something like that, it will protect you.

stay away from yantar until you start lab x16 mission (do lab x18 mission before lab x16).

Thanks

I completed the game a while ago and know am playing through it with the Oblivion Lost mod and didn't bother much with the main plotline :)

Woot! stalker just arrived in the mail and am installing now...

Playing through vanilla Stalker and loving it. Just got to Redwoods.

Anyway does anyone know whether a STFU mod for NPC's is available? Hearing "come here stalker, I might have some info that might be useful to you" or "come in! don't just stand there!" and ( by far the worst) "Hello? hello!" over and over and over again really pisses the living hell out of me!

I hope you like it!

That is annoying, but I don't think a mod that does that exists. :dozey:
Well... too bad...

Scientist:Hello? Hello!
Hello? Hello!
Hello? Hello!
Hello? Hello!
Hello? Hello!
Me: I'm right here in front of you! STFU!

Oh god, I'd kill for a mod like that.

French Ninja, your above post almost makes me forgive the fact that you have the word "French" in your nick!

Been playing this game for an hour or two now, just got off and saved it.

So far I think it's great. No bad impressions from doing any of the start jobs or anything, weapons are fine. So far I'm just past the military blockade out of the first area, had a nasty run in with some dogs out in the wild D:

Looking forward to playing some more later :D

Glad you got the game & are enjoying it. Are you playing the game vanilla or do you have any mods installed?

-MRG

I recommend playing without mods that change of the gameplay for the first time through, by the way. MRG may or may not agree.

Playing without mods first play through, Though i have patched it with the official patches.

I played the vanilla version, although patched, the first time. Aside from some bugs, I do think that's the best way to experience the game the first time.

I agree, first playthrough should be without mods.

Which ending?

First I completed the game via the Wishgranter and got the "I want to be rich" ending, then I loaded an earlier save (still in the NPP) and went to get both 'real' endings

I did exactly the same thing, but I got
"I want the zone to disappear"

I do agree thats it's best to play any game the first time through as vanilla. Sadly, I didn't follow my own advise. I have once again started or should say, RE-started playing Stalker with yet another mod installed & at this exact moment, I can't remember which one it is, Grumpy's Mod... I think.

Anyways, i'm glad that you are enjoying the game.

-MRG

Loaded STALKER up, walked into a house and got insta-killed by another STALKER who spawned right in front of me. :| The more I try to get into this game, the more shit it throws in my face.

I haven't had any bugs or anything so far, Only problem with the game is I can't have AA + HDR :(

STALKER doesn't even use AA anyway, not true AA; it uses a 'mimic' technique to blur the edges.

Anyway I just pulled my act together and reinstalled STALKER, think I'm gonna install OL mod.

Just had my first bloodsucker/controller. damn!

Yeah those guys who used to just moan upon knife stab actually are pretty tough. I remember them attacking once before in non-modded but only if I was like 100 feet away.

the controller is more bitch to kill compared to bloodsucker.

ps. did anyone get any impression that bloodsuckers move just like vortigaunts?

they move too fast for me to tell. Too busy shooting for dear life.

I have to say, that I am enjoying Grumpy's Mod immensely & with it installed, I have gotten the farthest in the game, I have yet ever been, which is now to & beyond "100 Rads".

I advise it as a Must-Try for those that want just a few basic changes to the game & not a full fledge Mod. I think I have already posted the below info, but i'm going to post it once again, as I feel it deserves mentioning.

* Added raw_onion_revamp_1.05 by tharawdeal and onionradish
* Added no_time_limit_on_quests by PiIsARational
* Lowered max weight to 250
* Added 2 new weapons: 44Mag Desert Eagle, and g36-Sniper Edition
* Tweaked a lot of the weapons
* Made the Bandits, Monolith, and Military stronger w/more health
* Increased spawn rate and max number of spawns. A lot.
* NPCs now buy and sell more stuff. Not all, but a lot more. * Also, if you sell them, say, an AK and they were using a pistol, they will switch to the better weapon. Just make sure it is loaded or you sell them ammo also.

I find that I am really enjoying the game. True, i'm not experiencing it the way it was originally meant to be played, since i have the above mod installed, but I still very much enjoy the game. Of course i'll prob reinstall the game once the next TC, large-in-file-size Mod gets released or until I find a game killing bug, but until then, I am having fun.

Again, the listing of Mods that I look at are as follows, please feel free to post the sites you download Stalker related files from.

Update: - Just got a PM from a friend that visits these forums from time to time, saw the original post & it sparked his interest to reinstall the game. The first mod he downloaded & installed was the Nuclear Snow Mod. I tried it quite some time back & didn't care much for it. However my friend said that while the mod starts off slow, since it does not really add much to the game in terms of new items or enemy/monster types, the over all game play ambiance he told me, began to get downright creepy as he progressed through the game. Since we both have a fondness for old B&W horror flicks, he advised that I download the Mod & give it another chance, as it is like starring in an old B&W B-Rated horror movie. While that sounds corny, his instance that the mod easily doubled the scare factor & my trust in his taste of what he found to be scary, since it so closely matched my own, I have decided to once again install a fresh copy of Stalker & to try out the Nuclear Snow mod & to this time give it a longer play time than I had previously.

While typing this out, the mod finished downloading. Un-Rar'ed, the mod is a massive 650MB. Provided I find the mod enjoyable, I may post info on it as I progress. If anyone has this mod installed, please feel free to post your comments on it.

Heading ingame...

-MRG

Update: - Nuclear Snow does improve the games overall fear factor by a large margin & it is also easier on your PC @ full graphical settings than without the mod, because of the lack of color, but cranked up, the game looks very nice. However, the games weapons & sounds seem to be of vanilla Stalker & thus poor. 5 Head shots & the basic bandit at the first mission Wolf gives you = low fun factor. The enemy spawns seems to be very low as well & so I ran across open areas at times devoid of life or rather just to the Stock Stalkler levels. I tried several mods along side Nuclear Snow & none worked, often causing the game to crash.

Times like this that made me really wish I knew how to mod.

I want:

1) Powerful weapons & sounds
2) Crazy amount of enemies running around
3) Nuclear Snow's type of B&W gameplay
4) Priboi's lush foilage & added static world items
5) All of the above, but do not break the game triggers

Back to yet another mod.

Just played it through again with what I thought was an 'extra mutant' mod. I saw two chimeras, one burer, and three cats. I want a mod where all the levels are crawling with all kinds of critters. There's a bccf mod or something like that which I have a hard time finding intact.

Note: when I first stepped into the world and I headed towards the bridge out of the rookie town, a mob of critters (zombies, fractures, boar, and dogs) came down the hill right at me - enough to blanket the hill. I ran back into town and up a roof to see if the locals could take some of the heat. By creeping to a corner of the rooftop, the critters would see me and mill down below where the other stalkers (rookies indeed) wore them down to nothing.

That happens when you have the Faiakes Mod installed. There are a massive amount of Zombies & new monsters added to the game. However & I can't speak for everyone, but for me, the Mod is buggy later on in the game, with mission triggers not working correctly & things of that nature. If you have the Grumpy's Mod installed, it up's the spawning of creatures & enemy NPC's by a lot, so you'll always have something to shoot at.

Edit: - New Realism and Sound (1.1) has been released. The previous version was a great, small mod that only made a few basic changes. I just now noticed this was released. I left the Dev a message to see if it's compatible with NS.

is it just me or the monolith faction has an ability to control mutants? it seems the mutants does not attack them at all.

Doh! Spoiler... or not. I have not yet faced the Monolith faction.

-MRG

it's not a spoiler. i'm not even sure if mutants attack monolith faction. it's just that from my experience, they don't tend to get attacked by mutants (or it's just probably a bug).

I couldn't Oblivion Lost to install properly, no matter what I did it crashed on startup, so I uninstalled it+STALKER -_-

Don't give up on the game Gargantou. Have you given Nuclear Snow a try? Interesting Mod, though at core it still seems to be Vanilla Stalker, only in partial B&W. Grumpy's Mod is cool & if you have a beefy enough PC, Priboi's mod is cool.

-MRG

Yaay just finished it today. It was quite a ride. My spine hasn't tingled this much since playing the original HL as a 12 year old.

About the endings I got,

First I got a bad ending where I wished to become rich... probably because I had a terrible rep, then I joined C-consciousness, and finally I think I got the true ending after a bitch of a fight over the rooftops. Too bad those god awesome gauss gun and FM200 was not available earlier.

New Mod Released: Stalker Rebalanced v1.01
Download Location: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SGFX6G1A - Enter Code To The Middle Left
Game Patch Version Required: 1.0005
Install Size: 405MB
Release Date: 02/10/08

Official Features:

Intro:
This is a compilation mod that combines some of the best features from an array of Stalker Mini-Mods and several slightly larger mods aswell as numerous tweaks, improvements and customizations of my own.

Aim:
The aim of this Mod is to provide enhanced and rebalanced game play for Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, with out straying to far from (my interpretation of) the developers original intent. This is not a realism mod, I have rebalanced many aspects including the weapons and ballistics to what I consider to be fair to gameplay, not necessarily realistic. This mod has only been tested for balance on the 'Master' skill setting, so I have disabled all other settings.

What does all this mean for you?
This mod enhances the retail version of Stalker through improved; graphics, sound, performance, balance, AI/A-life, day/night weather, weapon ballistics & ragdolls, quests, trading, unique items, text/interaction, interactivity, artifacts, health & sleep system, options, hidden secrets, bug fixes and generally removes a lot of the things that just really annoy. Just take a look at these screenshots:

Thanks! I am in fact running what I think is Faiake's latest mod. The game definitely bugged out a number of times, but, well, Stalker's always been like that (except once when I installed a 'fix all the bugs' mod), so I figured it was business as usual.

I'll take a gander at Grumpy's Mod.

You'll enjoy Grumpy's Mod as it was bug free for me the entire time I played it. However, if you really want to install a quality mod, then I STRONGLY advise you to install & play the above Stalker Rebalanced 1.1 mod. It's excellent. I have also been in contact with the mod's dev over in the forums @ Filefront & he provides excellent support. I had a few questions & concerns & he was extremely helpful. I very much advise his mod, as I have been playing it quite alot & it's rock solid.

Edit: For those of you that are having performance issues with the game, then I advise you to click on the below link. It provided an amazing amount of tweaks for the game that greatly improved my game play.
