Couldnt god create himself? I mean, he's god after all, he can do anything

Think about it.

could god get me laid? I mean he's god after all, He can do anything!

think about it.

Can God make a puzzle so complex that even He can't solve it? I mean He is God after all, He can do anything.
Think about it.

Could GOD make this board any more hostile towards theists?

Think about it.

Couldn't god strip himself of his powers, give them back, destroy himself, then destroy himself again, then eat chicken?

Think about it.

the whole idea for a Creation vs Science board section wouldnt work because every thread would consist of this. . .

I think the best answer for any single person including myself is:

I Don't know. The end.

Trying to successfully persuade Christians using any of the above points is futile. They just end up saying we can't understand God. Well, if that's true then maybe I don;t really want to know this mysterious guy who created us.

And if there is a God, I believe he engineered the fall. So, I think that's pretty f*cked.

I was going to post something deep and meaningful, but then I got to the "could god (insert text), I mean he is god after all, he could do anything! Think about it." part, and I lost my train of thought. well imma sleep now.

How did god know we were going to use a 7 day system? It didnt even appear long after the earth was created or long after people showed up.

We successfully terminated the futile argument!

Mission Accomplished!

The thing that always makes me lol is that god made the earth in 6 days, and one of them was to create THE REST OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Same. It seems like we might be finally getting through to people, since now instead of refuting they are begging us to stop proving them wrong. :D

no because i dont see how some random people i dont know on a HL2 forum are going to pull me away from my beliefs, this topic in general is just incredibly boring now. If you wanna restrict your minds pure logic then fine, but i choose to expand my mind as i believe there is something infinitely greater than what we merely see/hear/feel in our current existance.

Sorry that some cant contemplate the awsome inteligence that atheists claim they have, although i do find it rather pathetic that you attempt to convey this 'inteligence' on a forum on the internet, and somehow get satisfaction in brutally challenging the beleifs of others, you are all obviously beings of infinite wisdom and intelect, and and according to your narrow-minded logic, anyone who chooses to believe or have faith in anything, are frankly retards. You lot have the moral capicity of a moose.

I would like to add, there is no point flaming this comment, as my time in the topic is now done.

Obviously earth is more complex. What with the OBVIOUSLY SUPERIOR HUMAN LIFE on it.

No offense, but "expanding your mind" isn't an excuse to be stupid.

Religious faith doesn't add up. Most "known" deities don't make sense. None of them have any credence. Your supposed mental expansion - or whatever you want to call it - really has no basis in anything remotely rational. For instance, it's acceptable to believe in other life in the cosmos. That much is conceivable. But gods? At which point does such a concept become coherent to any degree? I know you like the excuse that just because we can't perceive something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but then why don't you apply this kind of thinking to every other ludicrous idea on the planet? We live in a world where facts need to be grounded in reality as we know it.

In any case, thanks for the kind words. We are indeed intellectually superior!

*High-fives fellow heathens before going off to abort a baby for stem cell research. Y'know, lacking moral capacity and all that.*

Great idea!

I feel there is an ubfubately greater solution to world peace that our current strategy. I propose that we nuke the rest of the world because that is the only solution that will bring about world peace. You can't prove it won't therefor it will! If you sheeple will just open your mind and try to think of something outside of your narrow-minded logic. I feel there is a gerater solution to world peace.

THIS is what really happened: Only 25 seconds, and it explains everything: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY0onv1gvsA

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! WIN!

So only people in your own little circle have any influence on your life? Thats pretty bad for you since it seems you are surrounded by people who believe the same thing you do. How can you learn anything new or see things in a new perspective if you only listen to people who think the same as you?

If you wanna restrict your minds pure logic then fine, but i choose to expand my mind as i believe there is something infinitely greater than what we merely see/hear/feel in our current existence.

I actually laughed out loud at this. Who says things like that? Ive never heard "restrict your mind to pure logic" said in a bad way. Logic is the only way you can see the world for what it is. The only way to "expand your mind" is to learn more about the facts of life. By believing in things that religion would have you believe, you lock your mind into one train of thought, and you can never see things any way other than "God's way." I wonder how that could ever be conceived as expanding your mind.
Sorry that some cant contemplate the awesome intelligence that atheists claim they have, although i do find it rather pathetic that you attempt to convey this 'intelligence' on a forum on the internet, and somehow get satisfaction in brutally challenging the beliefs of others, you are all obviously beings of infinite wisdom and intellect, and and according to your narrow-minded logic, anyone who chooses to believe or have faith in anything, are frankly retards. Oh snap! Insults! Ive never gotten those before. I seem to recall that the majority of the most atrocious crimes to humanity have been caused by religious people for religious reasons. Like Dawkins said, Atheists are a peaceful bunch. We dont start wars with nations who think differently, we dont go suicide bombing civilians, go on "holy" crusades, we dont kill in the name of jesus or allah. We simply talk about it. And no... its not just on a internet forum, we do it in person with others too.

We try to convince people just like you do, but we do it with backup from facts, science, logic and reason. We dont refer to old, outdated books that have been rewritten and changed multiple times throughout history, but instead to factual information accurately recorded, gathered by reputable sources and obtained by proven means. If simple scientific research gives us this "awesome intelligence" you speak of, then yes, by comparison, people of faith are "retards".

And to address our moose-like moral capacity: I was under the impression that the Bible told you to stone unruly children to death?

To be fair, I don't recall him explicitly saying he believed in the Bible. Just that he believed there was a "higher power"... whatever the hell that means.

It's pretty self explanatory......

Well I am glad to see people reply. Especially causing a 10 page thread. Awesomeness.

Ah, okay. However, that really doesn't seem to fall in line with his "moral capacity of a moose" comment. Unless he means irrational, arbitrary beliefs make you more moral.

"Higher power"? Then define it.

Is it totally omnipotent? Is it omniscient? Does it exist on a material plane? If not, what is the specific nature of its location/status? Does it even watch over us any more? Could it be dead? Is such a being fallible? Does it too have a "higher power" that it looks to? How was it born, if it was born at all? Is it male or female? Both? Or do genders not apply to this entity? Does it exist with a purpose? Is there anything fatal to it?

I'm rarely able to get consistent interpretations of what such a term means. Not only on character, but the fundamental natures of the beings themselves. And most explanations for their existence are based on hokey, metaphysical tripe that conveniently skips around the burden of proof. It's the same as "Oh, god exists outside of time and space!". Nobody knows what the **** that is.

I would, but I'm infertile.

It seems great men like myself are only to come once in a great while.

he engineered the fall to give us the option of choice. He wants us to love him, and you can't love him if you don't have the option not to.

so ya, he prolly did.

You're applying human concepts to a higher power! You can't do that! Remember? For all you know, God could have designed the universe so that all love was legitimate and not dependent on silly concepts like choice.

I love how the blame for going to Hell rests entirely on his children. The immorality of a father abandoning his children and then later coming back to beat on those who didn't love him in his absence.

he engineered the fall to give us the option of choice. He wants us to love him, and you can't love him if you don't have the option not to.
Since God is supposed to be omnipotent then he knew that Adam and Eve were going to take the apple no matter what. Why was the choice even offered then? Did he want to make it seem like it was our choice?

I don't buy into the bullshit that we were offered a choice to take the apple. It was put there on purpose. Either that or maybe God isn't so omnipotent. He certainly isn't a kind, caring God.

Pick your battles dude,:) I'm an athiest.

What i meant is that i understand that he believes in some "force" above himself, usually it's a blanket term which could mean all or none of what you just mentioned.

I was not battling you, but I did wish to illustrate how incoherent and loose such a thing can be. Diluting it to just anything that could be considered a higher power renders such a claim extremely weak. The universe could be said to be a higher power. But is it a god?

To further expand, you could even say another person is a higher power. For example I could be a higher power. George Bush could be a higher power(I hope not). Canada could be a higher power.

I was created in the glorious form of my creator, the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Blessed be His noodly appendage.
