What would you look for in a half-life film?

The teaser HAS to be with a small part of this song :CLICKEH
The part with the heavy bass (starts at 0:40 seconds), it's sooo action pumped, it just has to be lengthened. And maybe the part that begins at 1:26 .

Just my idea.

hi i have only just started playing and i do not no much but i know this hl wud be a great film. i would go and see it. rite about the soundtrack there is a couple of things, yes rock sets the mood for a gun, action, thriller but you also wat instruments (pardom my spelling) Slipknot maybe, nirvana no complete wrong song, i am really rock music fan, and i dont think the music you ve picked sets the movie try more my chemical romance: our lady of sorrows. but you definetly need variation
Robbie williams!!! seriously no. that dude with the glasses that, that guy picked out before was good, and i agree that if you are goin2make it dont have gordan in and definetly get a director who has played the game.
another point if you want the best result send 100 people the script so far. you want concept art and will need designers and other shit, i dont no mucjh about acters but dont get HAVE GORDAN,finally, most importantly good luck cos valve have very high standards.

I think having Gordon talk at all would screw the whole thing up. It just wouldn't fit.

Good news/ bad news depending which way you look at it.

Gordon will be in this film, and i know ill get alot of flack off some people for it, But ot be quite hounest, its not like im making any major charcter changes, its not like im casting Ben Affleck or some other A-List pretty boy. Norton (my favourite choice) Has made a career of making films that are off the radar (American History x and more notably Fight club).

Gordon wont have many lines at all, if any. He had few in the 1st draft, and he'll probobly not talk at all once i have the commentary nailed.

The Robin williams casting, as i have allready mentioned, is due to the fact that he is a huge fan of the franchise, and i think thats a huge motivation if hes passionate for it.

Othe casting suggestions for Kliener:
- Bob Balaban
- Jeffry Tambor

People have been asking me about the script. I think its something special and hard to describe, but ill give it a go...

The film is set into 10 interlinking storys, and it covers (among others) The storys of Freeman, Barney, Adrian Shepard, Black ops and G-man.

I love the idea of G-man's commentry, but the audience need to know what gordon is thinking, and if he cant talk, commentry gives the perfect medium.

Wouldnt suprise me.

Apparenlt he's such a big fan of the gmaes he managed to persuade valve to hire him to record dialouge for HL2, but he backed out due to shooting commitments

ok, its been a while since an update, im adding more headcrab/zombie sequences into the script, ther was a scene in the film where Barney, a scietist and freeman lure some soildiers into a fire trap, but im cutting back on that.

Other things that my script wouldnt pick up on yet that i hope to include...

Gordon will be carrying a novel entitled "The 37th Mandula" some of the more proficent HL fan boys may know that this is an excellent short story by Marc Laidlaw, writer of the game.

Despite barneys cynical demeanor, he has a lighter labeld "I 'heart' Pussy", a firned of mine brought one and it just clicked with the character of Barney.

When Freeman knocks out a soildier and steals his supplies, he will in fact steal a lighter labbled "property of Harry S. Robbins" Robbins was one of the voices from the original games.

Any who it seems that the doom game is coming out soon and the rock is playing the lead role in it! But one problem that its a bout zombies and not opening up hell portals which doom was about kinda. So if there was a hl film on the cards the studios may want to change the storyline to suit them and not the fans who may want it produced and released in the first place.

just a thought

Thats a very good point, but if that is the case, id ask Marc Laidlaw for his input, seeing as he's the genius behind it.

Er.. I like the other ideas you've had, but those are quite terrible. I like the idea of the reference for fanboys, but why would Gordon be carrying a book about?
And the lighter? No, just no.. Cheesey and embarassing

Score by The Dust Brothers...
Starring Edward Norton...
Directed By David Fincher...

I take you watched Fight Club just before you 'dreamt' all that up? (Since they were all present there in that form for those unaware)

Ok, get rid of the lighter, Lighters gone.

Whilst i love fight club, Fight club is not the architype for this film, its not trying to be anything other than a movie version of the game.

I just like music by the dust brothers, and if you see the 25th hour, norton looks alot like freeman.

Cool, admirable that you take critcism so well!
With the book, like I said, the ref is a good idea, but I think it just needs to be rethought - perhaps have a brief shot of someone reading it before the incident, maybe a security guard sat on duty at his station or something...

Well i realise that if youre going into Films youll need to take critiscism well.

Besides with the family ive grown up in, im used to far worse, lol.

Just put the book in Gordon's locker. A quick 2-4 second glimpse of it while he's getting ready for the experiment is all you need.

i think it should be in the style of pulp fiction, like you said about the interlocking stories but more out of order, where the film doesn't make total sense until the end.

Thank You. :)

The framework of the Half-Life games demonstrate that this idea could work. Just like Pulp Fiction it could be 3 stories (following Barney, Gordon, and lets say Adrian for fun).

But that idea should go in another thread. Let's keep this one for TJ Martin's vision of a Half-Life movie.

Stupidsmartarse, how dumb.
D.O.G. and the Combine weren't in the original Half-Life!

Otherwise, no problems with your casting... ;)

Well Samon, NO offence, but you should have gatherd by now that i dont listen to people who say it shouldnt be made.

DL has it cracked, that is exactly how the story is. Its all made of interlinking segments and the chacters keep bouncing off eachother. Each segment having its own distinct visual style...

The story revolves around Gordon, Barney and The soildiers sent in

I could warm to Vigo, But Edwards Norton's still my choice.
------
I know i said i wasnt planning for a second, but what the hell, if i were id cast...

Christopher Lee; Wallice Breen
Rosario Dawson: Alyx
Morgan Freeman: Eli
Holly Hunter: Judith Mossman

Yeah I think you need someone who is quite slight (yeah I have seen Am history X, but anyway), in order to enhance the point that this is just a puny scientist guy who is fighting alien armagheddon... having a big beefy guy like Crowe or Vigo Mortensen, with action films under his belt, would undermine this point...

A First Person Movie... You Never seen Gordan in Movie... Like the Game

While i understand the importance of sticking true to the game. a firsdt perosn movie wouldnt work. Its been tried before, and to be hounest, the result is almost laughable. I mean its an interesting concept, and i intend parts of it to be shot from gordons POV, but you cant make an entirely first person film.

Im sorry thethingexe, but it just doesnt work, its been tried...

what has it been tried on? Not that im doubting your word for a second.

why don't you have the alyx's voice actor (Merle Dandridge) because she sort of looks like her.IMO.

I ceartinly know its been tried in several art films were it works rather well. But a firend of mine did a short horror film entirely First person. It didnt work, it lost all credibility, and made a great script a running joke.

Whether or not its been tried on a full scale cinematic relaese im not sure. But from what ive seen, making a first person film with a legitamte story just doesnt work.

Ive never actually seen merle dandage, but like i say, im only planning the first for the moment.

Not wanting to cause a storm here, but after watching shaun of the dead again last night, who here thinks that Simon Pegg might make a good Freeman. He was recently in an episode of dr who were he played a serious villian and he did rather well. I mean we all know hes a good actor.

He's also rumerd to be playing roarscach in the watchman film, if there are any comic book fans here.

Thoughts?

i think hes a dead good actor, but not cut out for freeman. he always adds comic relief.
and fyi there are NO and i mean NO serious bad guys in Dr who although he did do a good job

Would it have comic bits in it? It must have if Robin Williams is gonna be in it :p

JEEEZ, i make one wrong comment and i get a people taking the mick all day.

Its not going to have true comic buits. It would be alot like die hard or pulp fiction, serious, with tiny snippets or one liners

Kind of like Independence Day or I-Robot, with more action than humor, but its still funny?

How about: No one makes the movie, [esp..the music and actor parts I read on the first post] you come up with your own ideas for films, and keep playing HL games.

I would look forward to one never being made.

I can deal with a televison show but not a movie.

And stupid? And bad? And with ****ing Will Smith in it?

I take it that you don't like Smith. not the agent.

Well... He's not exactly, you know, good at anything he does and yet he gets paid millions for doing it. That always bugs me when that happens...

Trust me, im not casting will smith...

MInd you though, he was quite good in "six degrees of seperation" But thats a million miles away from I robot, or independance day.

But will smith will not crop up in this film

at the rish of sounding like a complete noob, when you say you're casting or not, i assume this is all in your dream project? Don't mean to offend, if you do actually have the contacts to cast hollywood actors.

and before anyone flames me on this, it is almost conceivable that someone looking to actually do a hl film would seek advice on these forums. (and no, i didnt read the entire thread:))
