They should release a playable version of that over steam. Or at least something that actually runs the in game engine on your machine, like a benchmarking tool.

I probably won't have to pay for it now if I just wait till my birthday in december or christmas. Same goes for Deus Ex 2 which I will likely buy though since I want it even more than HL2. And It also leaves me money to buy Max Payne 2 when it comes out.

Actually VIP on IGN means you can change your name's colors, thats about it. Which mods can also do, but VIP's don't have mod powers. Valve still has to pay for bandwidth. So it can't be all profit. Or they at least have to pay the people providing servers for them.
