As Vidrio and many others said, yes the 'bouncy' physics were included ON PURPOSE to keep people from getting stuck. I wish they'd take it out, but once you get playing the game you really completely forget it, so it's no big deal. This will not be the case in HL2 -- you'll be able to climb up...
In America, at least, the 17+ recommendation from the ESRB is only a way to keep kids from buying Mature-rated games from stores. There is absolutely no law that says someone under 17 can't play M games in their home.

Are you judging from screenshots or from first-hand experience? I've spent a lot of time both playing in CS:S, and just walking around a hosted game exploring the graphics capabilities. Nearly everything that should be shiny in real life is shiny in CS:S.

Yeah I'd definitely encourage you to give CS:S another go. I actually didn't like the first Counter-Strike much, but CS:S is just a blast. A lot of people say that CS and CS:S have the same 'feel', which is probably very true, but I definitely have a lot more fun in CS:S and would recommend it...
I was just playing on Office, and when there wasn't much action and I was off by myself, I was getting about 145fps. When it gets more crowded during a firefight, I drop down to about 80fps at the lowest.

Close, but not quite. Like Platinum said, even if you host your own server (which is obviously going to be a 0 ping situation), you get lag on physicalized objects. This was discussed way back when the CS:S beta started and most everyone got a taste of this less-than-fun part of the Source...
And it shows... the models look really, really impressive even when not being directly affected by a strong light. Send my congrats on to the team, cliffe. CS:S alone puts all of the recent shooters to shame, and we're dying for HL2 :D Bring it on!
