exactly, there is no incentive for companies to lower the prices.. why lower down when end users have been paying these prices over the years anyway?

Posey, never have i seen prices lowered for anything generally speaking.. and theres nothing to suggest that prices would be lowered with Longhorn available.. u are speculating on prices drops for the future where as what i stated, u only need to go to the nearest comp store to see the price u pay now for a software, compared to what u paid for the same product a few years ago..

i don't use msn, or any messenger in fact, i use the good ol' stationary. pen and paper people! let's correspond!

So... When are the mods gonna close this thread anyway?

what are you talking about? this thread had become too powerful to be closed! it will grow and eventualy take over the forums, killing us all in the process. it's GLORIOUS!!!

LOL take your warcraft3onomics back to middle school.

if your occupation has anything to do with economics, i'm going to burn down the school you attended

why WOULDN'T companies lower prices if they're getting more money? new jobs dont just mean a place that more money has to be dumped. it means more productivity

if you want evidence how piracy is higher than its ever been. you simply need to check out some stats on bittorrent sites, IRC channels, file sharing programs etc.. you dont have to look far + wider availability of broadband makes piracy even more rampant. im not going to make a detailed pie chart for you. if you refuse to look around you on the internet, then you are just being dumb

No...actually it's kinda pointless once you think about it for awhile...

lol its beyond the control of any mere mod! they can only stand back and gaze in awe at the all-powerful being that is the longhorn thread

its speculation because we've never had a good piracy deterrent before. but we can be sure the prices arent going to go up when this goes down. if we continue along this path of not much protection against piracy. its not guaranteed that prices will stay the same.

Actually pirace has gone down since the us music industry(forgot what its called) started suing left and right.

Also you really have no idea how a buisness is run do you? if they make money, they just don't stop there, they will want to make more money, hence firing people that arent needed, making the company more efficient and deffinately not lowering the cost of its product...

You can't judge if something is good before it even exists...

again, i burn your economics teacher/school.

i ask you, what is microsoft's goal? to make money or to create jobs or what? if it's either of those, they will not lower prices if they make more money...it wouldn't make any sense.

so the burden of proof is on you...why WOULD companies lower prices? your babble about productivity means nothing.

piracy has increased because computer use has increased...i bet the same percentage of users pirate software.

another reason people pirate software is because they don't want to get screwed. so many companies release crap games that nobody wants to pay $50 to try. game rental is a possibility, and it would be more possible with palladium, but i'm not willing to buy into that solution. there are still too many other reasons why it's bad. (and don't ask me to repeat them...go back and read all 20-some pages of this thread.

Thats why the nice people on the internet have created trillian wich sucks.

heres the thing.

at this rate, with no good anti-piracy scheme. its not likely prices will drop at all. what is possible is that prices will stay the same. whats even MORE possible is prices will go up to compensate.

with longhorn and security features, the WORST thing that will happen is companies will keep prices the same for getting more revenue. whats likely is prices will go down.

what would you rather have?

well i dont see whats so bad about downloading software i mean most peopl ebuy it anyway if they like it

and susually they dont have the oney to buy it if they download it or not so companies arent losing money really

plus in the gam industry it helps alot because artists are practicing with software and getting jobs so it helps both the game industry and the software industry

wares is actually good for the economy

Posey why are u "sure" that the prices won't be going up? has Bill Gates personally come to ur place and promised u this?

im not so sure.. because nothing is guaranteed.. especially elimination of piracy.. u can control it (which MS is trying to do with Longhorn) but u can't eliminate it.. just like cheating in games can't be eliminated..

since piract won't be eliminated, prices won't be going down.. ur niave if u think so..

No, the worst thing that can happend is that microsofts monopoly will get even larger, allowing them even more controll over my personal comptuer.

I begin to wonder if posey is a Microsoft representative ;) lol

the point is, its not a sealed deal that all companies will magically lower their prices when supported by longhorn and gaining extra revenue. but the consumers wont' get screwed over any more then what would happen if they werent supported by longhorn.

prices staying the same is better than prices going up, correct?

I think my freedom has more value then any price a software company can come up with, don't you?

if you were a business and you exceeded your revenue expectations by a huge lot. would you RAISE your prices? do you know how businesses work? this isn't some crazy theory i came up with and that its cool to bash poseyjmacs opinion because whatever he says is stupid. this is simple economics.

this has nothing to do with freedom. no ones forcing you to use a computer

...that you dont know?

If my revenue went up i would keep my price, because if people are buying at the current price they must think its feasible, right? you should take an economics class or twohundred.
