I thought the exact same thing! Very risky for the developers to try something like that. I know Australian censors will pretty much ban it for that alone.sinkoman said:Jack Thompsons gonna have a field day with this game.
What with that little boy getting implaed and his brains turning green, then him trying to maul you.

Just finished the demo, great fun. The canyon level looked really outdated though. Like Half-Life 1 style outdated but with much better lighting. Other than that, the demo was awesome. The portals trip me out and the combination of the weird orientation (upside-down, side to side) and the gunplay worked really well. Good stuff.
elrasho said:Why are people saying this game looks brill, it looks like cheap tacky plastic and theyve overdone the "flesh/metal" aspect too. Makes me feel sick really It is a good game, but I dont like people are fooling each other by hyping this up soooo much.
How come thats not people opinions ?elrasho said:Its not peoples opinions, its people trying to get excited over a game that doesnt deserve it. They are doing it on purpose coz they havent got anything else to play right now. Its sad really, makin all this hype for nothing

elrasho said:The main thing that gets me is that its not a stand alone game, its more of a MOD for DOOM3. I wouldn’t pay £30 for this, no chance! I can see what the developers have done, they have tried to seduce us with them so called fancy graphics, but to tell u the truth it’s a doom2 engine with a pinch of sugar. That’s what pi55es me off, the fact that they have conned people into thinking that this is a WHOLE new game whereas its actually a MOD costing £30. The gameplay is exactly the same as DOOM3, it looks like DOOM3 and they even used that feature where u can play them arcade games in the pub.
This is my opinion, I know most of u wont agree since you’ve fallen for the marketing and fancy graphics. Take a step back and look at what this actually is. It’s an addon, its an expansion, it’s a MOD, its NOT a standalone retail game worth £30. Remember when Quake 2 came out then u got all them clones like Soldier of Fortune and Operation Flashpoint, Prey is the same thing, a rip-off of a genuine original game

mortiz said:I think people are a bit harsh on the DooM 3 engine, it's a very good engine indeed, as you'd expect from John Carmack.
AmishSlayer said:Yeah, because having games use another game's engine makes them a mod.
Here's proof
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_III_engine
I mean it's obvious that:
-Heavy Metal: FAKK
-Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force
-American McGee's Alice
-The World is Not Enough
-Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (Spearhead & Breakthrough)
-RTCW
-Wolfenstein: ET
-SOF2
-Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
-Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
-Star Trek: Elite Force II
-Call of Duty (United Offensive)
-Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
-Call of Duty 2
were ALL mods of Quake 3 and Quake 3: Team Arena because they used those engines or modded versions of those engines
You keep going on about how people here are "brainwashed" or purposely hyping themselves and aren't expressing thier opinion...did you ever stop to consider the fact that lots of us had FUN while playing the demo and are really looking forward to the full game?
Oh wait no...the game's just a mod of Doom 3 so we couldn't possibly have fun with it.
elrasho said:I had never heard of this game until I saw the DEMO on Fileplanet. After the intro, I thought “doom3 rip off” and that stuck with me all the way through. The characters are crap, their voice acting is terrible. The story is poor too. This game does not deserve all the credit people are giving it, seriously, play the game and think to urself “its June 2006 now, how different is this to a FPS from June 2002!!??” answer “Not much, just better graphics”
elrasho said:How can u say HL1 was like Quake!!?? Nothing of the sort, ones on a spaceship the others in massive research complex!! Where as Prey is in a spaceship just like 99.9% of other FPS and u must be blind to not see how similar it is to DOOM3. Also wolfenstein did use the same engine BUT the gamplay was totally different to Quake3, wolfenstein had a decent story and great concept set in WW2 where as Quake3 was a futuristic shooter. . Its that blasted graphics engine, u cant do anything with it other than make stupid shiny enemies and levels that look like plastic. They should have used their own engine, that would give the game a lot more originality.

oh and Operation Flashpoint is a Quake 2 clone wtf ?!
AmishSlayer said:Whoops. I just pulled that info straight from the Wiki I linked.
Elrashio...there's no way you're going to convince anybody here that Prey is a Doom 3 mod and isn't worth playing or is horribly overrated when they already consider it to be quite fun.
I felt that HL2 was highly overrated and didn't deserve the massive praise it got, but you don't see me yelling in an HL2 thread about how everybody is "brainwashed" and fooling themselves that the game is better than it is...
Just express your own opinion, not press it on everybody else...
Wow, you just keep on spouting bullshit, don't you? 90% is a ridiculous figure to try and pass off as 'fact', you could have at least aimed a little lower with these lies.mortiz said:Lighting is like 90% of todays engines. Coming up with new ways to simulate light is what it's all about. Source may use all fancy techniques such as refractoring, HDR and per-pixel specularity through the use of pixel shaders but it all comes down to simulating light at the end of the day.
