Correction - low end Dells are terrible computers. You put the $ down and you can get a very nice system. What you think you're paying for is service...but tell that to all the people answering phones in India for Dell.
If you like the sound of the XPS and can afford it - go for it. It's...
New XPS systems come with the BTX standard case I believe (as most new Dells towers do)
My advice: If you've built a system before or have a handy friend that's done it - enjoy the experience. Also - I wouldn't put a Maxtor hard-drive in my computer if you paid me. Look into a...
Unless you've installed about 3 or more times, you should be fine with the internet activation. If not - talk slowly to the microsoft computer you've had issues with. Working as a tech - annunciation was key with that stupid computer.
If all else fails, there are ways around that hurdle...
Upgrading now is fine. Get a proven 939 board and a Nvidia 6800Ultra. By the time that card is out of date, you won't mind having to upgrade motherboards. I say upgrade now.
a LONG time ago IBM had some black computers out with a soft-touch keyboard. I managed to find one of these in a Babbages and have enjoyed it ever since.
:dozey: For a while there i was using an old Tandy Keyboard with an AT->PS2 adapter. How many of you guys remember those?
I'm just guessing you're running Windows XP and not a lesser version - the minimum I'd ever run on an XP machine is 256 (128 if you're solely browsing the net). That extra 256 megs will help ALOT. If you really want to see what your machine is capable of plop down the money for two 512 sticks...
For those not reading the FX-55 and Athlon 4000+ reviews:
AMD originally stated that there will ever be only one FX processor in existence. It represents the tip-top desktop processor that AMD offers.
That being said - the new Athlon 4000+ is tit for tat identical to the FX-53. One has...
a 9800pro with a 1.7Ghz P4 is plenty enough to run HL2 decently and most modern games. No, you're not going to be able to crank the resolution or details all the way up, but for the average gamer at 800x600 or even 1024x768 with medium details its fine.
Well first off - most motherboards come with different settings than the defaults. In fact - the first thing you should do is set it to defaults when building a system. Try this first.
Most modern motherboards have software that will download and update your bios for you. If yours does not...
64 bit computing and the Graphics Card Usage of Windows Longhorn to speed up desktop apps.
Also - any of you guys heard about using your Graphics Card to process sound? In comparison to sole CPU processing - huge increase in performance. Truly the next wave will be parallel computing - not...
CWS is the correct way to get rid of that trojan. The most likely cause of you (or your Dad) getting the trojan is not doing Windows Updates. Get rid of the Trojan (make sure you run the program on all user accounts), and then get all of your updates. Running a firewall couldn't hurt either.
Either you have issues with the A)videocard overheating or B) Processor over-heating. I'd suspect the videocard first.
Alternatively - many of those symptoms can be caused by a power supply that is either not large enough for the job - or on the fritz and in need of replacement. Minimum PSU...
Sounds like either something is shorted or your PSU is out. Only PSU I trust is Antec TruPower.
Not sure which pin, but you can check you MB power connector for voltage. Try a google search and have your voltmeter handy.
If you're an IT guy or a college kid - get yourself a copy of Norton Corporate. Very nice - great protection - low system resource usage.
If I had to buy retail - I'd get the newest Norton Anti-virus package. And really - if you've got a quick pc get the Internet Security package. We sold...
