I think you need to rebuild the GFC file. Extracting gives you a copy, so replacing the copy won't effect the game.

Hard to diagnose easily. When it drops, how do you get it back on? Do you have to wait a while and then it starts working again, or reboot the laptop or what? Also, check if your wifi tool has some power saving setting that disables the connection after x amount of time.
